Please help: X48 or 790i Ultra

Hi ppl,
I am so confused... I am stuck! I have tried to read and read again all kinds of reviews, but I just can't decide: X48 or 790i Ultra.

In Norway at this momment I can get following boards:

X48 boards:
  • Asus P5E3 Premium/WIFI-AP@N
  • Gigabyte GA-X48T-DQ6
  • MSI X48 Platinum

790i ultra boards:
  • XFX nForce 790i Ultra
  • EVGA nForce 790i Ultra
  • Asus Striker II Extreme nForce-790i Ultra

Price are more or less the same on all of them.

I want to have a motherboard that will stable and easy clock E8500 @ 4ghz. I will go with CORSAIR TWIN3X 1600MHz DDR3, 2GB, DHX, XMS3 modules, CL7-7-7-20. I have yeat to decide on the GFX side, but overall CPU/RAM performance are more important then GFX as I mainly work in Photoshop and with all kinds of file encoding/decoding.

At the same time I wont this system to last for at least a year without any upgrade on motherboarb. Maybe new cpu or more ram, but not motherboard.

Please help me - I am as stuck as I can be...

You are going Crossfire? ASUS X48
You going SLi? 79i Ultra (the brands you listed are all good)

None? Asus P35.

I would say go with an x38 motherboard like this DFI one.

I don't recommend the 790i boards to anyone considering all the data corruption issues it's been having.

Yeah but from 790i ultra board - what is the best buy?..
And if we look away from GPU part - where the CPU/RAM/Mobo performace will be best - 790i or X48 ?

Going the reference boards not only saves you a lot of money but it also means you have a board which is identical to what nvidia worked with developing it. Sometimes non reference boards CAN be better, sometimes worse. Striker Extreme was absolutely horrific. I've not heard a bad thing about the Striker Extreme II though.

Personally, go the XFX 790i. You will NOT be disappointed.

Okey thank you! But what about some errors with 790i Ultra?

At this momment I only care about CPU/RAM/Mobo. I want the most kick from CPU since I use it a lot. I will take SLI or Crossfire based on the mobo pick
And it will be DDR3 yes

Well I have an Asus Striker II Extreme 790i and I am loving it. I you are going with a 790i, then you might buy the eVGA over the XFX or better again the Asus.
