does anybody know if thermal paste actually has to "set" ive gotten mixed responses. Some say that give it a week to set and you will see some temps lowering and others say that as soon as you put it on the temps you read are not going to change.

Heya all joined the forums as of yesterday, had my rig up and running as of last Saturday though.

Runs great and is a marked step up from my older rig. The only issue I have is my High Temperatures which have me very worried. Any comments or solutions would be very welcome, as I’m at a loss.

She’s running stock right now, but would like to push her to 3Ghz once all the cooling issues are sorted.

Cheers for now

ive had some pretty bad luck with the heat on the Q9300 as well im not sure whats up with it. Ive read that they are having some trouble with accurately reading the temps ive done a lot to my rig to help cool and the readings have not changed also they didnt change when I overclocked it to 3.15 and they didnt change once I lowered the vcore at the same speed. So if anybody knows something definitive I would like to know as well, thanks!

Most TIM (Thermal Interface Material) has a break in period of 48hrs+ but the best way I have found to get it to set is by Stressing the CPU for an Hr. or so then letting it cool to Idle then turning the computer off and letting it get to room temp (about another hr.) and I do that on and off for 2 or 3 days. I am running at 42,42,40,40 as I type this and I'm sure that is a safe temp.

@ Ironfield
Welcome, what programs are you running for temp? RealTemp is the most accurate along with CoreTemp, but with CoreTemp you have to open the Settings.ini and set the TJmax to -10.

@Tek
Yeah I also did some research after I posted that, and I found out something similar also people were saying that AS5 is a little different and takes a little bit longer so hopefully in the next few days I will see my temps drop a little bit. Thank you.

@tek

I’m running CPUID HW monitor, Coretemp 0.99 & OCCT v2.0.0a. All reporting 57, 64, 64, 57 degrees Celsius and RealTemp 2.60 reporting 47, 54, 54, 47. degrees Celsius

The ambient room temps at 27 degrees Celsius and the side case panels have been left off due to my fears of processor melting or something untoward happening.

I’m running the stock Intel HS at full fan speed and stock CPU speeds.

@Ironfield & raginggumby

Do you guys have any mb software to compare temps with? As I said earlier in the this thread tjmax 105 and 95 don't look right for this cpu. Here's mine running at 3.5ghz with a TRUE 120 with real temp set at 85. You'll see that the temps are a couple degrees from what my gigabyte software reads which should be about right.

With that said Ironfield your cpu should be about 35 idle and 43 load using the info from your screenshot. I'll leave mine so you guys can see what I'm running at. I'll post my bios info when I get my memory back from a Newegg RMA.

Also about AS5 it does takes about 200hrs to burn in.

SSChevy2001

Yeah my Asus Striker 2 Formula did indeed come with lots of bundled software. However I'm currently in the office and will have to wait till I get back home in 4 hours and post some more info.

The fact that my case doesnt have any fans cooling the immediate around the motherboard and the side of the case is off Do you think that it will have any bearing on these high temperatures i'm currently reading?

As for the AS5 burnin time surely that will only lower the temp by 1-2 Degrees at maximum?

Regards

@SSChevy2001 heres the updated pic with the Asus MB software reading

@Tek I changed the TJmax to -10. in Coretemp

@ Mono1 I'd go about Overclocking her via the FSB and up it to 400 and maybe up the volts to keep her stable but this is only after shes nice and cool. =)
