I lapped my ninja and cpu and put an extra fan for push pull and my idle temps are 44/40/41/36. Hardly any movement. Starting to think the temps can't be accurate. I'm using RealTemp 2.60. It has to be next to impossible for them not to drop over 5C with another fan and lapping of both. The CPU and ninja were pretty uneven too. Only thing I can think of is I did not go far enough with the CPU. I sanded on the ninja for over two hours.

Edit: Should add that thermostat for house is set to 75 and this room is probably 1-3F warmer. However my prescott is cooler then this in same room.

I been running now for three hours and my ninja isn't warm to the touch, it isn't cool to the touch, it's cold to the touch. The underside of the fin closest to the black heatsinks around the socket is cold. Hard to believe the cores are running that warm and you cannot feel any heat on the underside of the bottom fin.
Maybe the tjmax is 85 like SSChevy said here and unclexxxx suggested in the OP of the realtemp thread at xtreme systems. The M0 c2d is 85, I think it was a E21xx. It was suggested that maybe the Q9300 is as well since it is M1.

Hello everyone, new to overclocking but have gotten my Q9300 to 3.0Ghz stable at the moment. Will be pushing to get it to 3.4Ghz, we'll see how that works.

Just wanted to stop in and say hello and thanks to Tek for starting up this awesome thread! BTW, how do I get into the club?

Guys I am probably going with TPower I45 which has reached 725 FSB on a dual, I am hoping it can reach 500 FSB with the Q9300, this would give me 3.8 GHz, what is the limit of these chips?

@coltsrock

For 24/7 I wouldn't go much over 3.5ghz, as it will require well over the 1.3625v vcore than intel recommends as a max.

Here's a link to the world records for the Q9300. 3.96ghz being the highest

Checking into the club. After way too much time spent getting the temperatures down, I'm happy with 3.0 ghz on air. Zalman 9700 on the chip and 4 antec tri-cools(all set at low speed), I am idling at 42-43 and as high as 58-59 with load (according to realtemp2.60). Front side bus of 1600 with the stock 7.5 multiplier. Cpu-Z reports vcore at 1.296. I did not change any voltages, and all other Bios options are at default (spread spectrums etc). Happy with this, but want to push it more now that thermal paste has had time to set. Cheers.

I'm having a tough time getting above 3ghz. I can boot into higher but after about 5 minutes of OCCT on CPU only it locks up. Feed it more and more vcore and doesn't work. Thought it was my memory but with OCCT on CPU only still locks up. My vcore is at 1.24 idle. I have set it as high as 1.34. NB and mem stock since memory is only 20mhz over. Have also tried raising NB to as much as 1.35v and ram to 1.95 to no help. CPU VTT stock but have moved it as high as 1.19. Not sure what's holding me back but nothing I do gets 415fsb stable. My VID is 1.2375.

I am completely new to overclocking CPUs and I have a Q9300 a Zalman CNPS9500 AT and an EVGA 750i mobo on the way right now. I hate to ask this but I have spent about 2 hours reading through this and I dont think I have the answer.

Could someone give me an idea of what I need to do to get a mild OC (2.75 - 2.95 Ghz) from this setup?

Obviously all setups will be different but just as a rule of thumb what should I have to tweak and what should I be able to leave alone? I expect I need a slight vcore bump and I know I have to raise the FSB but what else, if anything, will definitely need tweaking?

Thanks in advance! Im glad to be a part of the 45nm club!
