@ PEproES
You have been added. Welcome! As for OCing the only things I have to mess with are FSB and vcore. If you let the vcore stay on auto it will boost the power to much and cause a lot of heedless heat. I'm running at 3.0Ghz with a VCore of 1.255v and I'm sure I can get it lower and stable.
Keep us posted...

Did you try increasing voltage to your MCH? It might not've been the chip was getting flaky on you, although you're in the right range. Mine goes to 450FSB with no trouble on 1.25v and then gets dodgy after that, although it's still possible my RAM is holding me back.

TY in advance!~!
I'm not familiar with the exact BIOS options in your board, but I'd recommend manually setting your RAM to a 1:1 divider, 5-5-5-15 timings or thereabouts (assuming it's DDR2 and depending on the RAM), and overvolting it slightly (by 0.05 volts or so over stock). Then set your vcore to 1.25v and your MCH to 1.4v. Then try to push your FSB up as far as it'll go. If you hit a wall, try increasing vcore for as long as you're comfortable with your temps (don't exceed 1.36v).

These voltages (other than vcore) are just guidelines though, and will depend on the rest of your rig. If you have a CPU VTT voltage you can bump that slightly, and I'm not sure what other options you have.

Have you tried a higher FSB with that? We're on the same vcore and I'm running 12.5% higher FSB than you... your chip just has to have more left in it at that voltage.

I have lowered the vcore and temps stayed the same so I just left it there. I am most likely going to mess with it a lot today (caz I have it off) and this weekend. I am also going to reseat my NB and SB heatsync and use Ceramique. I touched the NB HS&F and it burnt like fire so I don't want to go above 3.0Ghz till I can cool her down.

I noticed when I used coretemp to look at the cores temp the readings are a lot higher than realtemp. So I don't know which is right? the realtemp readings are around 40 ish and coretemp are much higher in the high 50s.

So what do you think I should use? Thank you. I'm gonna o/c my cpu again now that I a new mobo replacement. It didn't even have the latest bios...

two questions: does the q9300 need a supplimentary power connection to the mobo and will i need an upgraded cooling solution if i decide to OC my proc

Every indication is that RealTemp is the correct temp. I use speedfan, which is intermediate between the two, to be safe. But CoreTemp's temps are madness. You can see the argument for RealTemp here.

Yes (any PSU that's good enough for your rig will have one), and if you mean over stock cooling, yes. You could probably get up to 3GHz under stock cooling if you keep your vcore low, but anything over 1.1v or so is probably gonna want a better cooler. Depending on your budget, the Tuniq Tower is a sweet cooler for $50. The TRUE is better, but much pricier (especially as you have to buy a fan seperately), and if you want to go cheaper than $50 there's a whole pile of options that you'd probably be best off asking about in the intel cooling forum.

Also keep in mind that you need a decent PSU to overclock a quad well... otherwise your PSU will start to go over time.

If you let us know what you plan on getting for your new build, I know we would be glad to put some input in on what you should upgrade and what is find the way it is. I saw the tread you opened and put a PSU in there. The same one I have. But there are others that are less $$ and work the same.

I use RealTemp also, it seems to show the right temps. I still don't know why the other temp progies have not caught on that they have the TJ Max wrong but maybe they are busy?

Sweet... If you add it HERE others can see it. It is what people call "sig rig" caz it's in your sig block. If it's something you are getting just put (on order) or (pending) after it. I'm sure you will like the Q9300, I know we do. Also if you are wanting to use all 4GB of RAM you will need a 64bit OS.
