you´re welcome

report when you get your hardware and how it works! ^^

Hey All,

I've already posted this in Tom's Hardware, but thought I might have a bit better luck here.

So I've done a search on Q9300 and temperatures, and have run into quite a number of posts regarding Q9300 and high temperatures. The only difference with my post, however, is that I actually have an aftermarket heatsink and decent TIM.

I'm using Arctic Silver 5 and a Hyper 212 Plus on a new Q9300. I've attempted reseating the heatsink, but have not noticed a substantial difference in temperatures when doing this.

Using both Coretemp and Realtemp, my idle/load temps are like this:

Core 0: 55/66
Core 1: 50/61
Core 2: 51/61
Core 3: 49/60

Both programs are the latest version and have set the TJMAX to 100.

I'm...just at a loss for what to do about these temps. One thing that I did notice was that my motherboard is NOT able to set my vcore in bios under 1.2375. As a result, I've OCed my CPU to 3.0 stable in Prime 95. At least in small ftts, blend is giving me some fits. The load temps I got were the same as when I simply had my chip running at stock 2.5.

If anyone has any helpful advice/suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm also hoping the cure in time for the AS5 might make a difference, but a lot of people have been saying odds are no.

Another question is which temp should I look at? Use Core 0 since it's the highest, or the other 3 since they're all much more similar in kind. Thanks!

1. You apply AS5 incorrectly which causes it to produce more heat than it should.
2. You're unlucky, not all chip run at the same temperature, some chips run hotter than others.
3. You live in Arizona with no air conditioning in your house. The 130 degree temperature increase your idle temp by 5C-8c+
4. You've reseated your heatsink wrong not once but twice which causes no change in temperature...

Okay, seriously, your idle temperature is a little warm. Maybe it's the lack of airflow from your tower? the increase of ambient temperature because it's summer? whatever the case maybe, you should give us more details on your setup. Also tell us more on how you apply AS5. Please be specific and maybe we can pinpoint the problem.

BTW it doesn't matter which core you look at. Just focus on the load temperature.

FYI
My q9300 idle at 37c,41c,51c,46c. Overclock to 3.5ghz with 1.344v.

1. I do not believe I have applied AS5 incorrectly. I filled in the gaps in the HDT like most people have advised (including AS) by using a credit card (tinting the heatsink in the process), and I applied a single horizontal line as the AS5 instructions instructed. I did not use a lot of AS5 in the line, trying to keep it small but decent sized amount as most have suggested.

I may just get IC Diamond if I do not see any drops in temperatures in about 2 weeks time.

2. If I'm unlucky, that sucks and nothing I can do about it.

3. I do have AC, unfortunately, my room is probably the unluckiest in that I don't get a lot of the good circulation. As a result, even though we set it to 76, my room is constantly hotter. At the moment it's about 25-26C.

4. My case is probably not the best for cooling and circulation, so that might actually be a thought for why the idles are so high. The only problem is that when I was running my E6750, even OCed to 3.6, it only got to about 40 idle and 60 under load.

Hopefully the load temps will come down with the cure in process. If I'm reading 62/58/58/58 at load and at around 3.0-3.2 OC (assuming I can continue to OC it from where I'm at without increasing the voltage), I'd be okay with that.

gldtiamat,

I wouldn't worry too much about the idle or load temp for that matter. It doesn't make any sense to spend more money to drop the idle temp by 2-3 Celsius. Your load temperature is fine and I encourage you to overclock more. TJ max for the q9300 is 100c and I doubt you see it going over 80c. I ran 24hrs prime95/OCCT (not linpack) with my oc'ed chip and max temp is b/w 75-76c.

You can't really compare an E6750 to a Q9300 or any quad core. The extra cores from the quad series give a substantial increase performance over the dual. Which also run hotter but it's nothing unusual. Ask all quad series owner who is on air cooling idle b/w 40c-50c and load b/w 60c-70c+

Overclock your 9300 to 3.3-3.5 and watch it fly like a G6

I'm beginning to think it's a heat sensor issue. I opened up my side panel while my Comp was running Prime 95 and my load temps were at 65, but I couldn't feel ANY heat coming off of the base of the heat pipes or the heat sink.

Now normally, this would make me think that maybe the Heatsink isn't attached properly. But if that were the case, if the Hyper 212 Plus wasn't attached, wouldn't my load temps be that much more higher?

1.34 core, fsb 1.3, ram @2.1v (rated voltage) 6-6-6-18 @1121. Try increasing NB voltge it could help stabilize overclock.

I read some article/forum stating sometime the sensors in the quad series can be stuck. You might wanna look into this... since your problems might be related.

I have had a heck of a time oc'ing the Q9300. I have tried so many different configurations and what not. even 1066 ram 800 ram a combination of the 2. every timing setting possible. BUT TODAY I HAVE FINALY GOTTEN STABLE>>>>>>> VID 1.2375 but vcore set to 1.360v, ram 1.89v, HT 1.32v, NB 1.44v, SB 1.5v. timing 5-6-6-18 trc 24, trfc at 54 because of the 4 dimms installed. FSB 1575 bus ram @ 700. Any suggestions for increasing me beyond 3Ghz would be awesome.
