Okay, I am going to repost this here and might get better luck with this club.

Does anyone know exactly why I can not go pass 2.58 Ghz OC with the system below? The highest frequency I can boot up with is 343 with a multiplier of 7.5.

I have read on a google serach that is because my mb FSB is 1333, which is my max? 1333/4 cores = 333.25 Mhz. Is this true?

If it is, then if I get a mb with a FSB os 1600, that would mean I can theoretically get my frequency to 400, meaning I could get 400 x 7.5 = 3.0Ghz?

Or am I just off and just have to manipulate my voltages or something else?

Not sure how noobish this questions sounds, any help if welcome because just increasing a mere 72.5 Mhz is pretty

I have been told to lower my FSB as it is too high. Anyone care to comment on my OC? I didn't change anything other than manually setting DRAM timmings and voltage. I disabled speedstep, c1e support and spread spectrum...everything else on manual.

Not sure what other temps or voltages I should pay attention too....

Thoughts?

You should bve fine.. just do not gut much under 30 distance to tjmax on FULL load with linx or custom blend with 2.5gb+ ram with prime95 for over than 6-10 hours at LEAST biggrin.gif

The only thing is that you are using ddr800 ram so you are 40mhz over the ram spec.. if the ram runs fine i should see no reason lowering it if you not increased the rams voltage.

can you post some pics of your bios settings?!
do you run a divider of 1:1 ? i guess not and i think that your ram timings are too tight for the final fsb.. try increasing your timings. for 3ghz you almost do not need to increase voltages.. maybe just by a tic the vcore and the nbvoltage.. this depends on the hardware. try it out and post here again.. k? goodluck!

Some of you are using 1.4v+ to achieve 3.4ghz and I honestly thought that's insane. The chip can do 3.3-3.5ghz within 1.32-1.36 Vcore

Just posting for the sake of posterity, haven't looked at this thread in a long while, but 1.4 I use is just a bios setting, the actual voltage is something like 1.35 idle after vdrop and something like 1.32 load with vdroop, if i'm remembering correctly that terminology...

But reference voltages are definitely key to stability at higher fsb and can keep your cpu vcores down.

i have asus striker 2 formula and can't pass 2.57 Ghz
actually 3.2 Ghz was max but it isn't stable .
i have tried everything with voltage any thoughts ?

wow this is an awesome place!

i got my 9300 at 3.57 very stable 3.60 it starts acting up :/

when i am in black ops it'll run somewhere around 65C in the main screen and 74+ in game

New to the forums. Here is my overclock. 3.75Ghz @ 1.3125V in my bios even though it says 1.296 on CPU-z. It reports no errors on prime95 after a 24hr test. My ram that I am using is holding me back and currently don't feel like investing more into this system. If I borrow my roommates ram, I can get to 4.2Ghz before stability issues.

@ drkfire07

Welcome..

That's a nice OC but hold your horses pall..wink.gif

You say 4.2GHz on a Q9300?? That would need a FSB of 560MHz and THERE'S NO WAY YOU COULD EVEN GET A VALIDATION link, yet to run a stability test..

Gigabyte EP45 UD3R is a great motherboard but 510MHz FSB is a maximum freq that you could even try to get stabilized and that would need a massive tweaking and top OC skillz..

Everything above 510Mhz is just for a show off and would require a better cooling like water or a dice/LN2 and massive VTT and MCH voltages..

CHEERS..

I'm thinking about upgrading tbh. Check out my sig rig and let me know what you think. I can let it go for a good deal I guess.
