they got discontinued by intel as part of the phase out to 45nm chips. But I think we have seen the last of them as well. They wont phase out for a little while, and are still great cpu's. But intel is a business, and i7 is the new product.
take my advice, go with 45nm. the 9550 should hit 3.8 on this board, and the 9650 should do 4.0. If you can swing the extra 50$ for the 9650, its top of the line 775
if not a 9550 @ 3.8 will be great too.
I just bought a low VID Q6600 hoping for the best, but as of right now looks like I only gained 200MHz from my last one.
but between selling my old one and what I spent, it only cost me 30$ so its ok. I will go to a 9650 in the next month or so. So this is just to play around on and get a little boost.
