If he enables restricted repositories, he should be able to get the drivers just by running a system update.

You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.

sudo nvidia-xconfig
Then he will need to enter his password, and assuming all the correct files are there, the Nvidia configuration will set up his Xorg file. If not, he will need to download the drivers from the Nvidia site (this is recommended), and make the file executable. For example:
chmod +x NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12.pkg1.run (This will make the file executable if it isn't already.)
./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.12.pkg1.run (This will execute the same file and install the driver. The "./" specifies that you are running a file in the current directory.)
Depending on the behavior of the driver installer, you may or may not have to run the "nvidia-xconfig" setup routine.
To restart the X server, you can do one of the following:
Log of, Reboot, or Press CTRL+ALT+Backspace

easiest way would be to enable the restricted repositories and use the driver that pops up. go System>Resource Repositories (or something along those lines), then just browse through the checklists and check off the ones that sound best - note that this will not only make the vid drivers available for use, but some other software will be installed/updated as well.
