Jumping the gun, were still years away from 6 cored machines. In fact the average person doesn't run a quad, they are running dual cores. Thats changing, but I can't even use a quad for anything except folding so I went dual core.

As far as the competition goes though, the quad will act like a good dual core only. It will not get full points for the 4-man team competition, but register full points for OCN. It is still almost the same as now, except full points are going to be counted outside of the competition.

Q2-Q3 2009 is not that far away.

And the fact that not the average person has a quad.

Then what the hell is the point of this thread?

We are trying to accommodate for power users, planning for the future is mandatory skill that some people are failing to exhibit here. Part of keeping teams together is making sure everyone is happy.

The cap will be universal; it will not be based on members of one team. In short, I'll figure a solid average for dual cores across all of the active dual folders, and our quad folders will receive points towards the team competition at that level. The scoring spreadsheet will be updated to compare actual quad output versus the cap, and the minimum will show in the score column for each update.

See my original post above, which started with something to the effect of "quads are the current king of the hill". Once that changes, things will need to be reevaluated. As long as we have single and dual core folders, we want to have an means for them to enjoy the competitive aspects of folding.

Exactly. Outside the competition but for OCN and the folding cause in general under the current scheme. This will just help for folders who have a single quad but want to compete in the team competition. This will not affect any other folders (i.e. those will "less" than a quad or a quad plus any other system).

See my original post above as for why this is not in the works.

i may as well chime in with my suggustion although im a running a quad and a ps3 so this wont affect me but if a quad member joined a team and they had 5 cores then take off 1/4 off the points so the hit the 3 core limit
EDIT: just thought that might be too much work as some ppl will join teams which have 6 cores running already so that would mean taking off 1/2 the points
post #58 of 89
Plus people with 5 or 6 cores can make a solid move into the top 20, so they don't need the "small time" team competition to enjoy the competitive aspects of folding.

what i meant was the team had 5 cores folding then the quad could contribute the other 3 to make the 3 cores per person and 8 cores per team. sorry for the confusion

So...how are we gonna set it up? Cause I wanna set up dual instances...
