Is it worth getting another 8800GT for SLi? - Page 2

I'm glad I went with two GT's at this point. Like above, my 3DMark06 score jumped a little over 4K points with the 2nd card. Played through Crysis on high at 1920x1200, ran perfectly.

Be prepared for the temperature in room the rig is in to go up a few degrees though.... I think I'm going to have to install a window unit in my computer room due to all the heat this rig is pumping out now.

It is the way to go if your into gaming. many ppl will rant n rave about the cpu and how fast it will OC to.. blah blah.. I have gained 15 - 50 FPS in graphics tests on 3dmark canyon flight is 150+FPS in some areas, if you want extreme gaming SLI is the way to go (or crossfire for you ati guys) with the full x16 X x16 now it is just plain sweet.

As for crysis... well I love the game, I just cant figure out for the life of me what they did when designing it that it is so system hungry... I could prolly read around n find out, but too lazy to care.. I believe its the physics. I was getting 20-27 FPS with all settings on H and 1280x1024 with one card and 17" monitor. Now I get 30-40 with VH settings and same res on 22" just much much smoother, I push it to 1680x1050 and settings on H no AA and it runs 20-30 FPS. I just couldnt imagine what hardware is on the horizon if that is what the future of games looks like... Looks like we better start saving $ ;-)

Yeah just got my second card, and will be putting it in my rig in a few minutes. I figure I could be amazed at the performance gain and still have a system that can perform for years to come. So I made the investment. I just wish I never bought the 8600GTs in the first place.

get another and you will gain massive points in 3dM. but, as some have said, you probably wont see the prices worth in difference in your gameplay. If you like it, go for it, but i would (in your position) only spend the dough if i was into benchmarking. you will definetely see improvement in your 3dM scores, which can be a benefit in itself. but graphics performance, even with that extra card, will tend to... plateau at a certain point, which you may hit if you havent already.

This thread has me debating a second card.. Might try to pimp my 939 system to the max.. Only thing is can my opty180 @ 2.83 take advantage of it at 1680x1050 and 1600x1200 res gaming in WoW ect..... Im looking for real game performance.. not synthetic benchmark scores..

thats 4000 points, all via graphics, insane FPS COD4 I average 100+ at 1680x1050 all settings on high... crysis smooth as butter 30-35 FPS 1680x1050 all settings H...

Be sure you have a board that supports full PCI-E x16 X x16..

Well worth it... I just plain love it.......

As for waiting for some ati future series...... I wouldnt recommend it, there will always be something better on the horizon..

nVidia FTW
Ditto. MONSTER leap in quality when I SLId (hah, slid... slid into the crysis zone...)

Okay so I unpack the card that I just got today. This is what I get: The top card is the first one I bought this past sunday, which is a good overclocker at 730/1850/1050 (core/shader/mem) from stock 600/1500/900. The second one as you can tell is completly differant. I mean I've heard of revisions but... The first card I purchased has a bigger fan. (more so bigger blades) while the second one is smaller, and the fan is located on the other side. I know the pictures aren't focused all to well. (bad lighting).

Comparison:

Both cards have a blue circut board (newegg has pictures of a green one)

The top card in the picture has silver where the leads show, or look around the screw mounts for the heat sink while the bottom has a copper/gold colour to it.

The first card has a number on it which reads SFPX88 REV:393A01 while the second I could not locate such number, but this one did have two jumpers that I could see with no pins in them. (J10/J8)

Also searching SFPX88 on google leads to links about Sparkle cards/reviews (Link to there direct website http://www.sparkle.com.tw/)

The stickers on the back all match model numbers and what not with the exception of on having a differant serial number than the other.

And Last but probably not least The stock clocks for my first card is 600/1500/900 (core/shader/mem) while the second card is stock at 600/1512/900 12 MHz higher than the first one. I don't know if this is normal from card to card but I though it was wierd.
