I say AMD should stop crying, take that lawsuit money and put it into R&D, or maybe pay back that money they borrowed from their teary eyed investors. And before the fanboy attacks start... I was using an AMD1200+ for the longest time, it replaced my P3 till I got a P4, and now a C2D. I was not impressed with with the P3, P4, or the 1200+
But the thing is, given how long ago this started, it could have had a huge impact on AMD's ability to develop better/faster tech--but since the allegations imply that AMD lost out on a (relatively) big part of the market due to back-door deals between Intel and PC manufacturers, AMD lost out on a lot of revenue they could have diverted towards developing tech that could equal or surpass intel's current tech. That's why this might end up being a big deal. But who knows how it'll turn out.

This was all before any of AMD's troubles and Intel was the evil empire foisting slow cpu's on the unsuspecting public. This was a time when any enthusiast running an Intel was nothing but a misguided fanboy, skt939 was the KING. The C2D was barely a twinkle in some designers eye. These actions by intel are most likely not ocuring anymore as it seems everyone is using a certain amount of AMD chips in thier pc lines, but AMD would not be in the trouble they are if they had a fair chance at the market, which clearly they did not.
As FuNkDrSpOt said, thank you setting this straight. Thank you!!

S939

A diamond in the rough for it's time, and still a strong platform.

I think you need to realize that performance does not set the CPU market. Marketing does. Also, as has been stated, this was when AMD CPU's were the king o the hill. Just because you have owned both products does not make you right.

Thats the silliest thing I have ever heard. AMD should stop a lawsuit because it hurts Intels customer base? Are you serious? Now, assuming they are guilty, What about all the AMD employees that would have benefitted from the increased revenue from OEM PC makers? What about AMD customer base that would have benfitted from more money put into fab and R&D for new products. Where do think money for these things comes from? What about the cheaper, better performing products that would have come from both companies due to stronger competition?

I am not saying I think they are guilty (although, I wouldn't be very surprised) just that I think you need to look at the bigger picture. the best thing for all of us is competition. We should be angry about anything that inhibits it, regardless of where or who it comes from.

What is it about people named Paul and Intel, lol.

No ones talking about Intels current market share, this was about 2005 and the years previous to that when none of the major pc manufacturers would carry the AMD chips, which were superior at the time. If Intel had played fairly instead of intimidating and bribing the pc makers to not use the competition then AMD would be in a better place right now.

This isn't about fanboyism, this is about fair market laws being broken.
since when is a p3/p4/c2d/ 1200+ brand new chips to 2008 ?

Not taking dude's side.... just maybe pay attention to what your saying before you say it ?

Thats just it, though, they don't. Don't confuse a few enthusiasts with the general public who make up 95% of the market. They want what they are told is the best and feel comfortable with.

edit: Thats why this issue has such large implications. Dell using an AMD could have driven up their sales by quite a bit, regardless of the performance. Do you eat at McDonalds because it is the best burger you can get for your money?

Welcome to OCN, home of the Intel department of defense.

Any thread with "AMD" in the title = Intel fanboys saying AMD sucks and theyre going to die, Intel is da best0rz, buying ATI was the worst move evar, AMD sucks (again), and so on and so fourth.

Oh how i wish one of them would make an intelligent argument instead of these stupid fanboy comments.

I hope intel gets whats coming to them.

Yes, i am an AMD fanboy because the only other runner is a crock
