AMD 9850 BE or intel - Page 2

Honestly, I would say wait it out until the new 45nm chips come out. That's what I'm doing.

The q6600 is slightly better because it can overclock to 3.6 with the right cooling and version, I have seen a few 9850s at 3.2ghz, even one at 3.4ghz. But I would say average is 3ghz. I would seriously hold out though for the 45nm if you want to hang with amd. If not jump in the 9850.
Get over the word fail, he asked the question I answered. Why do you have such a problem with that? In fact don't even answer. Just get over it guy.

Clock for clock the Q600 outperforms the Phenom 9850 in any test that I've seen thus far.

Why would you NOT get a quad right now because it's so "useless".. Just because a game cannot utilize all four cores doesn't mean the other 2 cores are going to waste. You can do plenty of other things on those other 2 cores WHILE you game, instead of dealing with bottlenecks and instructions behind halted and stalled..

FAIL!!!!!!!!!!

It makes more sense to get the Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition beacuase he already blew 150$ on a 790FX AM2+ board. Instead of spending MORE money on new Intel boards and a new cpu, just grab the Phenom and clock it up to 3GHz.

Lets say he switches to intel.
Gets a DS3L and Q6600 (310$)
He gets a 15% Increase performance clock vs. clock.
Where as he spends 22% less for the Phenom 9850+ BE.
Logically, the Phenom is the way to go.

if you have no price point, go intel, irregardless of the 45nm line. If you wait long enough the end of the world will come along, anybody who is gonna wait and wait for just so amd can catch up is kinda ridiculous. Intel packs the power, amd packs the budget performance cpu, thats it thats all. A few years ago AMD blew intel away, both on performance and on price, but intel seems to have noticed and picked up the pace. Until you see a dramatic improvement on the amd cpu lineup, I wouldnt bother. If you already HAVE am2+ board, go amd as it will save you loads of $ on a board too, but if you are looking to start from scratch, and money is no option.. well... I think the point is clear. Intel.

ALL AMDs base are belong to intel.

Yeah, id go with the 9850 phenom. The Q6600 might be a little faster, but you really wont be able to tell the difference (I have both, and I cant tell, both OCd to 3,0ghz. And since you have that 790FX board, you can really juice that 9850!

Also, its been shown that the Q6600 barely outperforms the 9850... so the choice is yours. Id personally support AMD just because they need the income so bad

Thats exactly how I see it, and the Phenom 9850 (yes I know its 100mhz faster) did win against the Q6600 in a small handful of test, very small handfull.

I won't go back with Intel simply because how my last Intel based system died and I have never had a single lick of trouble from AMD chips.

Thread Starter
Thanks guys for all your replies. I think I'm for sure going to go 9850 BE I just cant go to the dark side . I think I'm going to wait a bit though cuz I don"t want to order offline and my fry's store don't have any so maybe they will get something new thats better before I go to buy.

My advice, don't waste money on X4 9850, wait for the 45nm chips. AMD always comes through for us, so I am sure those chips are going to be worth the wait

I'm personally holding out until the 45nm chips. For now I just removed my IHS from the X2 5000BE and OC'd it to 3.3GHz

Still plenty of power to run all the games I play. For example, WIC which is very CPU bound gives me 50-60FPS average in-game, and 39FPS in the in-game benchmark. In both cases all settings are turned up very high.

Stick with AMD since you've already spent the money on a fairly good AMD board. Intel is better but I don't think its worth spending another $400 when you've already spent a fair bit on the AMD board.
