With that said, the Q6700 is still the better option. the higher multi will let you get 3.8 with the right cooling. The Q6600's top out at around 3.6 on air (unless you get a golden stepping, even then 3.8 usually needs crazy vcore in the 1.55 range which will ultimately fry the chip)
Ive seen a dozens of people, including myself, who run 3.8GHz+ with less than 1.5vcore.

But the newer Q6600s currently being sold online are not doing so well.

my q6600 does 3.2 rock solid, but i have MAJOR temp issues when i approach 1.5v

It's all in the chip, but also my tuniq is mounted in a rather sketchy manner. Hopefully the new one will get me to the magic 3.6!

Are you saying you need 1.5v for 3.2GHz OC? What week is your Q6600?

no; I need about 1.5v for 3.6, at which point my load temps get close to 80c

10x multi baby!

I love the flexibility you get, especially with regards to potential memory divider options, you get with high multis.

That said, the Q6600 is the better bang for buck.

But for max clocks, you certainly want the Q6700...or maybe the Q9550

I can get 4.0 on my Q6700 and air. But I will not let prime95 run to long. 30mins in it got to 70-72 so I stopped it. Im at 1.46 So I guess its time to WC the CPU.

I need 1.575v to even post in Windows with my Q6600 it has a crappy VID of 1.325
I'm running it now at 3.2 with 1.425v stable. Most people can attain 3.2 with under 1.38v

They are right these new Q6600's suck big time, look around a little before you buy!
If you buy from Tankguy's I'm pretty sure that you can request a certain chip, and I wish I would have done that in hind site.

If I do get the Q6700 then should I just spend an additional $10 to get a Q9300? They are both about the same price.
