Acer P223Wwd vs Samsung 2253BW

OK everyone, I've been shopping for a monitor for quite a while now and have it narrowed down to two choices: Acer P223Wwd and the Samsung 2253BW. The Acer and Samsung have nearly identical specs, except the acer apparently has a glossy screen and a 2500:1 contrast ratio! However, I could not find any sources to tell me whether this contrast ratio is real or just an inflated dynamic one. If it turns out to be a real ratio, I will go for the acer because it is cheaper, otherwise, I'll be forced to spend almost $300 for the Samsung, which I've heard is top-quality but has some backlight bleeding problems. Man, finding a good monitor that won't crap out on me or cost me a fortune is quickly becoming a nightmare . Thanks!

I really like samsung monitors. That being said, they are also quite pricey, but worth every penny. I don't like the fact that the Acer model has a glossy screen--I absolutely hate that about my notebook. It makes your monitor or laptop look quite flashy/new, but it sucks for viewing 'cause of the glare.

(1) it is my opinion that contrast ratio is overrated. higher is better, but the question is whether you'll really notice a difference (be honest...). 250:1 vs. 500:1, I can buy. But 2500:1 and 3000:1? I don't think that should be the deciding factor.

(2) it is also my opinion that response times are overrated as ghosting is never an issue on modern monitors, regardless of response times.

Get the one that you feel the best about because they're of similar spec's. Don't rely only on price though. Like I said, I HATE glossy monitors, so I'd never buy the Acer. But that's just my opinion...

Dude, the cabinet is glossy white, not a glossy screen! Definitely get the Acer, better screen for the money.

Ah, well, in the OP, it states that it had a glossy screen. But now after looking on newegg, yes, the screen is not glossy (thank god! for a minute I couldn't believe that monitor manufacturers were making glossy screens...!!!).

Given this new info, I'd say go with the Acer--better buy for the money if it's a durable monitor.

contrast ratio of the samsung is 1000:1 while it's 2500:1 for the Acer. Still don't know about the durability/quality of the Acer though. But it seems to be the better buy.
