new PSU for high end - Page 3

sold out... oops.

How quickly do you need it?

Newegg has them in stock, but is , as usual, highly overpriced for new items.

The moment the Corsair gets back on buy.com... GET IT!

I know I'll be getting mine

That is... if this sexy $400 beast doesn't win over my wallet...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256038

Seriously though... the Corsair for anything under $250 is a steal.

Love it. Super fast. I've been on RAID for a couple years now, and I'll never go back.

If I were to buy NOW, I'd probably get a pair of 320GB Seagates 7200.11's in RAID0, since those drives ROCK. But then again, my Raptors aren't too shabby either (whooping the seagates in terms of access times any day)

check here for some good info:
http://www.acnc.com/raid.html

There are different forms of RAID, and each one has their own distinctive advantages and disadvantages. I'll give a quick roundup of the most usual suspects:
  • RAID0, or striping: minimum two drives; boosts both read and write performance dramatically; slightly higher risk of data loss than with a single drive (if one drives goes down, the entire array is destroyed); total storage space is number of drives times the smallest drive in the array (generally all drives are the same size... thus, four 250GB drives result in 1TB storage space)
  • RAID1, or mirroring: minimum two drives, and has to be an even number; boosts read performance; data security since data is mirrored (i.e. written twice to different disks in the array); total storage space is number of drives times the smallest drive in the array divided by two (generally all drives are the same size... thus, four 250GB drives result in 500GB storage space; the other 500GB is used for the mirror)
  • RAID5, striping with parity: minimum three drives; boost read performance, but write perfomance is TERRIBLE, unless you have a dedicated true hardware RAID controller (at least $300); data security given the parity stripe; total storage space is number of drives times the smallest drive in the array minus one time the size of the smallest drive (generally all drives are the same size... thus, four 250GB drives result in 750GB storage space; the other 250GB is used for parity stripe)
  • RAID10 or RAID0+1: both are combinations of RAID0 and RAID1. Four drives required (or any multiple of four.... if your controller can handle that many drives). Has the advantages of both RAID0 and RAID1, thus data security and speed. Expensive though (generally all drives are the same size... thus, four 250GB drives result in 500GB storage space; the other 500GB is used for parity stripe). This is my favorite RAID though, since even onboard gets excellent results, but at a price
