A/C unit for my case

This is mostly an idea right now but were working on it just wanted to get some peoples opinions and ideas

the unit will fit into 1 or 2 optical drive slots. be self contained (no lines or tubes running around or through your case) utilizing phase change tech. it will blow air that is lower than ambient temps into your box but be programed to not exceed the dew point. so your don't get water in your box. With the numbers we ran for the amount of coolant (about 1/4 pound) at the preasure were shooting for It should be able to drop the temp in the box about 20deg. the only down side right now is hot air blowing out of the front of your case. just some thoughts and opinions would be a big help to finishing this project and when its done I'll post pics. If it works lol.

Just curious, how (and where) are you going to monitor humidity?

I'm guessing your using a peltier, what wattage, I have a feeling your theoretical numbers if you've gotten this far are whacked, mind sharing so I can give you a hand? Air chilling is incredibly hard to accomplish effectively with peltiers.

Actually it sounds as if they are talking a mini AC unit, which would send in dry air. I think he would need a collection point off the condensor coils to catch the water though.

Sounds interesting! I actually wouldnt mind hot air coming out the front, I sit under an AC vent and I'm shivering half the day...

Your right it is going to be a mini A/C unit weve come up with some ideas to trap and drain the water. but the only thing that we can come up with right now is to drain it through a hose to a bottle or something that can be dumped. As far as the numbers go my buddy figured them up seeing as he is the A/C mechanic. And to measure the humidity well thats a hard one we've been trying to figure out. I thought to have a digital hydrometer (I think that is what its called) and a thermometer. but right now were still working on that.

An phase unit in a 5.75"x3.26"x8" area? That would be quite an achivement.
Once again...

I mean you could do the 5 x 8 with a very thin (small) compressor and such, but 3" wide? No way.
