Need help on new Intel build

Thread Starter
The rig in my sig was the first comp I built. So when my uncle said he wanted a new comp, I said sure. only thing is I'm used to picking the higher end stuff for gaming out. Not the lower end stuff since he wants to keep his rig under $600. Its going to be the family comp and I'm not to up to date on Intels stuff and whats the best bang for buck. So any suggestions for a complete build would be most helpful. Thanks!

I agree with all of that except the 8800GT. Is this rig going to be used AT ALL for gaming? If not, there is no need for a ~$180 vid card.

I'd change the 2180 to a 2140 or 2160 (if any overclocking at all is planned)

If no overclocking i'd drop the mb to a 965 chipset as they're cheaper and not really bad clockers (see my sig for example)

For $100 a 8800 GS 384 mb is a decent midrange card

foxconn 965 with raid support for $60 ($50 after mir)

Yeah I'd definitely change the graphics card from an 8800gt...just too much if it's just a family computer.

What about an 8500? Those things run for like 50-60$ and you can get one with passive cooling so the computer is nice and quiet.
