SLI and 3dmark06 question...

Thread Starter
I just recently added a second 8800GS to my system so I could give SLI a fair shot. I have enabled it - and it appears to be working. My question though -

Why does 3dmark06 list only a single 8800GS in the GPU info? It's obviously working - since it increased my score by about 2k...but I'm noticing compared systems list 8800GS x 2 or 8800GTX x 2 etc. Mine only lists the one 8800GS.

Any thoughts...

Oh - and sort of related.

Why doesn't dual-monitors work when SLI is enabled? That really really bugs me.

I was wondering the same thing about 3dmark, but I was convinced its the programs default listings via some sort of database... It reads my Q6600's FSB and automaticly sets it as a 9x multi, even tho its at 8x so it reads my cpu core as 3875 rather than 3400

As for the dual monitors.. that I believe is a driver issue, at least i hope it is cause i was going to hook up my 17" after work tonite as my 2ndary display...
That would suck.... so much processor and display power and only 1 monitor...

Hey guys the dual monitors and SLI is not a driver issue. I was just going to inform you guys that it is just plain and simple knowledge why it doesnt work.
We use SLI to combine 2 gpu's to get our increased performance.
Its a limitation of the methods in which multi GPU technology is joined. In lamens terms the second GPU is joined with the first and the data and workload is divided amongst them. This cannot function if one GPU is doing other workload ((such as running multi monitor)) you will find that this limitation exists in all current forms of multi GPU technology.
I hope this makes it all a better understanding of how we get our increased performance, and how trying to go dual monitor would decrease and make SLI performance back to single GPU.

Shoot....

I really like my dual monitor set-up. I guess I will just disable SLI except for when I'm playing my games. I've really gotten used to having both for my everyday computing.

Yeah... the only thing that sucks is some systems requiring a reboot between enabling and disabling SLI. But i know many users that enable and disable it when playing games or working, and browsing.

You can always get a cheap PCI nvidia card to run that second monitor.
