Water-cooling old system - HELP!

Thread Starter
As you can see, my newer rig is watercooled, but a friend did it for me, and he never explained it, so I know nothing about water-cooling.
I need to water-cool my old rig, as the heat it chucks out is massive, and I can't work with it. The CPU is not such a problem, I think it is the graphics card that is causing the heat, although both are OK temperature (they're in the green so not getting damaged)
Here are the specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ with Arctic cooling Alipine 64
RAM: 4GB Crucial Value DDR PC3200
GPU: 1024 MB DDR2 Nvidia GeForce 8500GT Super+ by Xpertvision
HDD: 500GB Samsung spinpoint pro.

I need to know what parts to get to water-cool the system. They do not have to be top of the range - as cheap as possible really - as long as it keeps it reasonable cool.
Thanks

If its kicking out alot of heat thats a good sign. it shows that your current cooling is actually pretty effective.

Enless of course, you've measured your component temps; CPU (coretemp) and/or your GPU and chipset, and know its overheating.

A system like that should run plenty cool with a decent air cooling system. Water cooling would be a "waste" and would only be useful if you plan to do some serious overclocking on that thing.

Sorry, forgot to mention, GPU is overclocked quite a lot using rivatuner. Inside temps are low, but outside temps are high! I want to cool GPU especially, but aslo CPU

Are you using stock coolers? A good air cooler will be enough to keep that card cool. The reason I'm trying to convince you against water cooling is because for a system such as that it just won't be worth it. Sure, it will run cool, but for the extra cash and time you will be spending on setting it up, I just don't see the practicality of the thing. I would only go WC if you plan to do some serious volt mods to your card and run massive overclocks on the CPU, and or want a really silent system. For a good WC system look to spend around $150-200 and a few days worth of learning, as opposed to $100 you would spend on a good air cooling system.

The reason I want water-cooling is because I'm planning on buying 2 9800gtxs for my new rig, and I'm gonna put the 2 8800gtxs in the old system.

Something like this maybe,

CPU. FuZion CPU Block..There is a new Fuzion version out now, the V2, I would look around and get one of those...

GPU...Swifty 60

...Swifty 60 Ram Sinks

..86cfm Pana

HC...Heater Core

Pump.D-5..Don't cheap out on a pump, it will determine what kind of blocks and how many blocks you can use...

D-Tek Fuzion install tip! (Or why you should clean new blocks)

I recommend you make two separate loops then, if you plan to have your CPU in there as well, that or run a big radiator with lots of fans. A single loop is still possible, but I would forgo any overclocking.

There's just one major problem.

It sounds like you want to add watercooling to that pc in order to reduce the amount of heat that it creates, amirite?

It won't do it, it's that simple.
