Folding on an 8 core machine? - Page 2

For whaever reason in my pc i can not run 2 FAH. But i found out a way to run as many you want .

What i did is stupid but it work for me.

Create multiple users accounts with admi priv.

1. Switch users install and run more FAH.
2. Switch user and repeat the process
3. Dont logout from acc
4. Dont create more FAH than cpu cores. I will recommend 7 fah for your 8 core cpu.(this will take care of the idle process)

**Increase core priority for the FahCores**

The only think i dont like is the system idle process it will take you part of your cpu.

AT the end it work for me

it has to be server 2003, I am working on getting the affinity changer to work.

Kil, 2.0 is already installed

we'll see if I can get the affinity changer problem figured out.

that would be nice, bringing 7000 points per day

Try some of the things on this page from Microsoft

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555175

Awhile back I had a problem in Win 2000 server and specifically the part about emptying out the temp folders below fixed the problem I was having. It may be worth a shot for you..... If it's a problem with Windows Installer

1. Empty "%systemdrive%\emp" folder
2. Empty "%systemdrive%\\%windir%\emp" folder
3. Empty "%systemdrive%\\Documents and Settings\\%username%\\Local Settings\\Temp"
4. Try the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

You should seriously consider setting up VMware to run Linux as a guest OS under your native 2003 Server OS. It's super easy to do, you will just need to set up four clients instead of two like in a single quad system.
Be aware if you want to set -advmethods and -forceasm flags you may need up to 1Gb of RAM per client(4Gb total, plus whatever you need for the host OS), while running standard -smp without those other flags you will likely need only 400Mb per client (2Gb plus host OS needs).

do you mean I will need at least 4gb for the two winsmp clients or at least 4gb for the linux setup?

4Gb total for Linux running 4 clients (2 per CPU), folding a2 cores (can be enabled w/ -advmethods flag). The default a1 cores use much less memory.

I'm not really sure what the memory demands are for WINSMP.
