Constant BSOD's in ultimate 64

Thread Starter
Specs in sig.

Sometimes i will get memory management errors, i heard this was because the onboard audio was on and i have a prelude. So i disabled the onboard and it seemed to fix it. But the bsod i constantly get is irql_not_less_or_equal. Sometimes it will hang on the boot screen that shows my videocard info and if i restart it will work fine, and then sometimes the screen will fill up with flashing cursors.

Is this a problem on a software level or hardware ? kinda think my northbridge is getting too hot, as i had to bend one of the retention clips so it wouldn't touch my cpu heatsink. Should i reinstall the OS ? or just rma the motherboard ?

Hey Carl.

0x000000D1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

The system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL that was too high. The most typical cause is a bad device driver (one that uses improper addresses). It can also be caused by caused by faulty or mismatched RAM, or a damaged pagefile.

irql_not_less_or_equal is a Driver related error or faulty ram.

Have u tried with 1 stick of ram ?

Also run memtest just to make sure the ram is ok.

Also is it overclocked ?

Ure sig is 4gigs of ram is that 4x1gb or 2x2gb ?

Have you installed the 4Gb memory patch for Vista?

Microsoft
For those running into the problem of BSOD when trying to run more then 3Gb of ram on Vista, you need to run the KB929777 hotfix from microsoft. This hotfix applies to Vista, both 32 bit and 64 bit, so download the corresponding update.

Thanks...

Every time I see a thread about unexpected BSODS with Vista, I immediately look to see if they are running 4Gb of ram.

Do you have SP1? If so, the patch is included. If that is the case, try to memtest the modules and see if it is a ram issue. Do you have anything overclocked ATM or is it all at stock?

I would run it for a few hours. I try to run it over night for a good 8 hrs.

Are there any changes you have made to your system recently? Maybe you installed some new hardware or drivers/software?

If memtest passes, i would set everthing back to stock and see if it still happens. I would also run a HDD test just to rule out the possibility.

GL!
