I am looking to spend $200-250 on a new monitor but I have no idea what to look for in a new monitor. Which ones would you guys reccommend for gaming?

I'd say... up your budget just a little bit more and get the Samsung 2253BW for $279.99 after rebate from NewEgg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001268

You figure you'll have the monitor probably longer than the current computer that you are using... so why not get one that is higher quality.

Just my opinion... good luck on your purchase.

You want to look in a monitor thats above 1650x1050 resolution, below 5ms responce (lower the better) and you want a trusted brand.

Here are some i recomend:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...1236&Tpk=216bw - one of my favorites to use. I've used this at a LAN before GREAT monitor. My cousin also has one and their great for graphic design work (what i do) Highly Recomend

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009094 - This is a GREAT budget monitor. I'd recomend it on a tight budget.

Both are great, go for the Samsung though.

CRT monitor = Higher Refresh Rate
Higher Refresh Rate = Possible to see more Frames per second.
Seeing more Frames per Second = Better for gaming.

either way.

CRT >>>>>>>> anything else for gaming. gaming computers are usually bloated with huge components anyways, so why not complement it with a huge monitor? lol
