Can it? A BR drive is $399 on Newegg (cheapest one i could find)

You put that in a PC and it automatically enables you to play high end games? Only if you have the hardware to support it. But then that costs $$$. You would be paying about $800 for a decent system + a blu-ray drive $399. Thats like $1200 just to compete with the PS3's level of game play.

So yes, a PC can do more, but definitely not for the same price! Sorry if my figures are wrong, i don't exactly know the cheapest Blu-Ray drive in the US.

@ El Mike, lol I'm on a roll I've voiced my opinion on the 360 plenty of times, time for the PS3 now

I'm not a console fan anyways, so yes I'll be getting a stand alone for christmas this years, as prices will be down at that point and will never look back. It'll go nicely with the new TV I'm gettin this week, and the choppyness issue I've heard from multiple owners of the PS3 that have done side by side comparison with a stand alone player and have all stated that the stand alone player had a much smoother playback than the PS3.

And btw reason #2 not to use PS3 as a BR player.......

it wont work with my harmony remote.

We have an Asus BR/DVD-RW combo drive for $205 at my shop, 399 must be for a burner unit cuz the players ahve gotten pretty cheap since HD-DVD went bye-bye.

Ahh fair enough, my bad then. But you still couldn't build a gaming rig for $200 capable of matching the PS3's quality

$205!? Sheeesh, that's pretty damn cheap!

I would say your 'theory' about the games library is more opinionated. As is my reasoning why, i can only name about as many 360 exclusive games that i like compared to the PS3's exclusives. Sure maybe i can name a few more 360 ones, but i certainly wouldn't call the PS3 library weak, were do people come tot hat conclusion? It has some awesome games, and some decent game and yea it has bad games. But i certainly wouldn't say it has too weak of a library, the library has grown significantly since the PS3's release

Just my opinion of course.

Like EL Mike said, only someone who has never watched one would say that.

The article that mentioned that also mentioned it was practically 'un-detectable' and for a fraction of the price!? Why would you care

Seriously, we know the quality is sub-par because it isn't dedicated to Blu-Ray. Wouldn't that be obvious?

But it certainly isn't choppy nor is the image quality bad, the PS3 does an extremely good job with Blu-Ray and it plays games as well. It has a free online multi player and is a great media center!

but now i am starting to sound like a fanboy, which isn't the case. I love both my systems.
The main thing that makes the PS3 Library of exclusives weak is the games aren't as enjoyable as most of the Xbox exclusives. And no I'm not flaming or being biased. Read around.

This really isn't the topic for that stuff. If you want to do a comparison of the ps3 and the 360, go into the general video game section. And saying the games aren't as enjoyable would be biased and flaming , as it is not a fact and not even relevant.

I agree that the PS3 is great for playing back bluray. I've never had any problems with my bluray disks on my ps3, it certainly isn't choppy at any point. Honestly at the price difference between the ps3 and stand-alone players, there really is no better choice at the moment then ps3 for bluray movies.

i want to see how good the blu ray player for the 360 will be, if any

But otherwise, i don't buy movies anyways, so i'll just stick to streaming it through my 360, or upscaled dvds is good enough for me

Sure it's not a fact but is a very wide spread opinion. Look at all the major review sites. And it is relevant because it backs up the statement that really the PS3's main use is as a blu-ray player. Whatev. Call me a fanboy if you want.

my ps3 plays BRD just fine without any skipping, or the like..

I am very happy with my ps3 in general... just wish it had those standout titles a little earlier in it's lifecycle !
