[shacknews] Spore, Mass Effect PC to Require Online Validation Every Ten Days to Func - Page 2

This is the kind of thing that ruins PC games for me. Why do I have to put up with this crap when I can just pop a disc in my console and play whenever I want?

People defend this crap and then blame piracy for ruining PC games. This is making people want cracked versions of the game. It's a sad day pirates get a better game experience then the rest of us.

I don't see what the problem is. If you buy then game then you won't have any problems activating it.

Though, the activating every ten days is a bit much. If pirates can get it activated once then they'll have no problem doing it every ten days.

Apparently you missed the Bioshock disaster where people would uninstall it the right way and it would still count as one of their installs.

Also, since when did a pirated game need to be activated?

Since games were pirated.

What companys need to do is use the same system as Company of Heros; the latest version of it is uncrackable.

yes pirates WILL always find a way around. there hackers its what they do and theres a few select groups that do it really well. That aside, for the people who do plan to purchase one or both of these titles, a every 10-day valdation isnt amussing at all.

Do you not have the internet?

Edit:

This is what they said

"Mass Effect uses SecuROM and requires an online activation for the first time that you play it. Each copy of Mass Effect comes with a CD Key which is used for this activation and for registration here at the BioWare Community. Mass Effect does not require the DVD to be in the drive in order to play, it is only for installation.

After the first activation, SecuROM requires that it re-check with the server within ten days (in case the CD Key has become public/warez'd and gets banned). Just so that the 10 day thing doesn't become abrupt, SecuROM tries its first re-check with 5 days remaining in the 10 day window. If it can't contact the server before the 10 days are up, nothing bad happens and the game still runs. After 10 days a re-check is required before the game can run."

No where does it say that it will have to check every ten days. It also doesn't need the DVD in the drive.

On top of that the game will be able to activate three times with the same key.
