So what I ended up doing was downloading the illegal crack so it would actually work! GG
For many, including myself, this is going to be the ONLY answer sad to say. I'd rather not be told how MY PC is going to work with a particular company's friggin game installed!

I'm not promoting "File-Sharing", I'm stating that I will grab a crack so I do not have their interference whenever I want to play the game I just spent $50 to purchase.

I hope this game fails.
"Piracy" (as it is referred to) encourages piracy. I don't think this will create another reason to download the game. It's going to piss people off more than anything else.

There are going to be thousands of people that will have issues when the game stops working because of their "protection" scheme. Think about all the people that know nothing about Firewalls or Routers/Ports. Then again, if EA has sold the game to you already, why should they care?? They never have before.

I was soooooo looking forward to Spore

I'll definitely buy both games, but only after some unscrupulous fellows have created a workaround for me to exploit.

Windows validation was cracked in a way that M$ recognized it as a legit copy, what makes these game developers think that they will be able to protect it from piracy...
If the game is worth the money then they have nothing to be afraid of.

I bought less then 10 games in my entire life of which I still play most of them, the rest of the games I simply didn't want to try.

I hate pay 2 play.

I think that this will deter some Pirates, but not all. If companies really want people not to pirate their games, they need to build Security into the code, not as an after-company thing.

That's a bad idea. Remember what happened to Titan Quest? They made the game crash if it was a pirated copy (though I suspect plenty legit copies crashed as well) and as a result people started badmouthing the game.

Doing stuff like that isn't reassuring to the paying person. The more sophisticated and intrusive the protection system the more chances something might go wrong.

All games can and will be cracked at a certain point. Spending a lot of money trying to prevent that is useless. They should just put a key check and be done with it.

At the end of the day a good game with no protection will sell more that a bad game with tons of protection. They should add this to their anti-piracy efforts.

So what version of Company of Heroes is uncrackable? A patch or the expansion? I haven't heard of it being uncrackable but would be interested if they found a way to arrange that.

I completely disagree. particularly with Sony's & Microsofts platforms in mind.

Games like this just wont sell. it wont effect the PC gaming industry much. if it does drastically effect Spore's sales, i'd guess it'll go the same way Starforce did;

http://www.glop.org/starforce/

face first in the mud. Buh-Bye spore!. thanks EA!.

However, if maxis have put alot of work into it. i'm sure they'll release some sort of patch to remove it. much like alot of developers who used Starforce...

I wonder what percentage of potential profits were lost by incorporating this into the game?
