Make sure the owner isn't a big smoker, if you're not used to the smell of smoke.

Bought a referbed 360, and the cables reek of smoke..

I emailed a guy who was selling a 360 on ebay saying its NEW and heres his responses...

Quote:
Yes it will work online if you purchase an Xbox live subscription. It should still be under warranty from Microsoft because it was a replacement for a three red light one I sent back. So technically it isn't an arcade one it is a premium that was refurbished by Microsoft and sent to me as a replacement..it also could be a new one they sent to replace it I am not sure. I do know it is not new enough to have an HDMI port and as I said I have absolutly no problems with this unit.
Thanks
Matt

Sounds sketchy, I vote no. Go with either the $250 one on amazon or wait for blueray.

they're not going to raise the prices of the 360s, the price will remain the same to stay competitive with the PS3

If it was refurbished my MS i would trust that over a non-refurbished one. I don't hear much about refurbished 360's getting RROD again.

well refurb ones are also the ones ppl send back after getting RRODs and then they usually die a bit after that because the problem isnt really gone. the best way to prevent RROD is to mod it with the X-Clamp method. changing out the fans so it runs cooler in total it would mean dropping another about $90 to cahnge everything out if you do it urself and then whatever extra charge if you decided you want someone else to do it. almost 80% of the dead ones on ebay can be fixed and you can buy those for around $100 and do the X clamp mod and etc and you can also buy new shells for it to make it your own. ppl need to understand the MS fix is never permenant it is going to come back. The only time i would suggest not doing all this is if you have a falcon chip but since this is a refurb already it cant be a falcon chip or there is a lesser chance of it being a falcon chip.

Wise words. RROD = $10 at lowes, BTW, FTW. I've "popped" about 10 boxes off ebay, at $10 each to fix, and either sold the boxes as working ones or $75 for the fix. No one has broken down yet!
