HELP! New build not booting up!

Thread Starter
I wasn't sure where to put this, so if it's in the wrong section please move it. Anyway, I set up my new build tonight but it's not starting. I'm not sure what the problem is... maybe the OC experts can help.

P35C-DS3R
E8400
Geil 4 GB Ram (currently only have 2 GB in to install Vista)
MSI 8800 GTS OC
2 Seagate HDs
Tuniq Tower 120
Auzen X-fi
SilverStone 850W PSU

When I press the power button I see a quick flash of a red light somewhere near the RAM slots or/as well as to the top left hand corner, by the 4 pin power on the board.

The 4 pin and 24 pin power are connected. As far as I can see, everything is powered as it should be.

Advise??
Thanks!

Yeah your problem is that you should be using the 8 pin power plug instead of just the 4 pin.

What I am talking about is the plug right above the CPU. When you recieve the board from the factory they put a black cover over half the pins. So you will only see 4. Remove that cover.

Then go to your wires from your PSU. It looks like your PSU comes with a 4 pin plug and a 8 pin plug. Use that 8 pin on the motherboard plug that I just described.

That should get your machine up and running. Keep us updated.

It wasn't another 4 pin beside it.

Is´t a modular PSU maybe and you have the wrong cable installed, check again and see if you have one with 8pin, otherwise there is something wrong.

You didn't screw in the brass stand-offs before you installed the motherboard in the chassis did you?

The stand-offs in the case? They were already installed... I just put the cpu and the cooler in with the board outside of the case then screwed the board to the case.

I only have 8pins going to 6pins. I'm not sure if you mean that I should have an 8pin from the PSU to a 4 pin for my board. There isn't an 8pin on the board.
