Installing GPU Drivers - Ubuntu

Hi - Ive tried installing ubuntu like 3 times now. When ever I go to Desktop Effects, it tells me to install a driver.

So I do.

Then it tells me to restart, and I do.

Then when it boots up again, it just goes into this error mode and says the graphics thing has been disabled.

But it still wont boot up into the ubuntu fully, and starts saying something about USB.

I have no idea what to do - this is my first time with linux.

Download Envy from add/remove programs. It should automate the process of downloading and installing the driver for you.

Really? Look it up in Synaptic Package Manager then. I could have sworn that if it's in one, it should be in the other... Maybe not... Check synaptic anyway.

There has got to be SOMEONE on here who knows for sure how to get Envy.

Ya, i have a mobility radeon 2400HD on my laptop and I found differing advice everywhere about what to do about it with my 7.10 install. Envy for my graphics card only works about half the time but it's the best thing to try. I used it and it worked perfectly for me. hopefully it will solve the problem, if not serach the ubuntu forums for your graphics card/chip and some help topic should pop up.

If you're going to DL it, try and get a .deb package. Compiling a program from source can be a pain for a first-time Linux user.

I would think it's in the package manager somewhere... Maybe a different repository needs to be added.
