I guess that takes care of the start-up over-volt problem...I wish they would find a way to bring back the performance with them and still keep the durability...

That certainly explains why one pump used to start up before the other when I had two loops going.

Well yeah - the MCP655 may have abit more power - but the Ultra will be alot more attractive. I have a reservoir and two radiators - I need to know whether the Ultra DDC will cope with them.

There is a delay with my 350 and 355 on startup, and was wondering why. Now I know....

If you don't have a pump go with the 655, I do love my 350 and 355 w/petra's tops. But a 655 would be cheaper and give you the same performance.

I don't think Alphacool DDC Ultra is a Swiftech MCP355.

DDC Ultra has 4.7m head pressure but its price is way above 355...

DDC Basics

Laing make the DDC pump (in Germany I think, although i'm told there is now a US office, anyone confirm?)
ALL other companies buy the stock pump off Laing and then re-brand it as their own.
This includes the likes of Swiftech, Danger Den, Alphacool, Apple (for their servers) etc etc.

Essentially the only thing these other companies do is change the pump top, some don't even bother (i.e. Swiftech)
Serveral companies have made aftermarket tops for use with the DDC for a couple of reasons:
  • To allow the end user to change the barb size, not everyone wants to use 3/8" hose you know
  • Increased Performance - Most/All the aftermarket tops offer an increase in performance over the stock top
In the latest shootout, the XSPC Top / Res combo came out "top".
See Martin's testing for further information: (Cheers, again Martin!)
    http://www.martinsliquidlab.com/DDC3...opTesting.html
  • Pure bling.... see my avatar for proof!

Like Ira and Duckie touched on, the old Orange Impeller DDC's were real monsters but this added performance came at the cost of life expectancy! DOH!

The new blue impller models have a much longer life span but you do loose the little extra performance from the orange ones.

TBH I don't consider this is a bad move on Laing's part, I think 99% of the market would rather have a pump thats gonna last rather than a pump that is gonna give x amount of extra flow but is more likely to die.

@ Ira, Duckie or any of the other hardcore team
Do any of you have a figure/graph/chart showing the difference between the blue and the orange models?
