alright i got a question is cpu spiking normal on vista...
sometimes i have like 80% of my processor used when im not doing much more than surfing the web..
but when i play games about 90% of the time its not affected
just want to make sure there isn't something wrong with my computer

I would check your task manager and see what program is using up the 80%. Also just to be safe I would double check for virus's and spyware.

1 the computers brand new just got it today thats why im wondering if its the pc or vista
the time when i have the biggest spikes happen when im using iexplorer but i normally use firefox

Its not a known issue if thats what your asking. Thats why I said check your task manager and go to processes, then click on cpu so it brings cpu usage by most used. Then watch what is doing it and post that.

Probably just superfetch and/or search indexing. Both just need a couple of days and will relax then (I'd just disable the indexing tho).

next time my computer has one of those spikes ill check it out like i said they are just spikes that don't happen for long periods of time....

Is it constantly at 80 percent, or just when you're doing something? I think athlons are designed to be used between 0 and 100% and not inbetween, whereas intel processors use what they need.

If it's a new system then I doubt it's a virus, but if you bought it ready made from a big pc shop, then it might be any crapware they installed on your comp.

I would uninstall all the programs you don't want on there, and check msconfig for startup processes that may be hogging ur cpu

EDIT: That's a good point, it could be superfetch or search index getting used to ur system, maybe its a prob if it still happens after a few weeks

alright well i didn't really buy it from a big company in store atleast i bought it off bestbuy's private auction site
and i have a retail home premium 64 bit installed because i wanted 64 bit not 32 bit XD
