The "10 year life cycle" simply means Sony is going to keep the console production and game rolling for 10 years. It doesn't suggest that PS3 will be the ONLY Sony gaming platform within this period. So, PS4 could be introduced to the market as their new platform in 3 years while Sony still sell PS3. Just like how PS2 is coexisting with PS3 at this moment.
I think it would be very difficult for PS3 to out sale 360 in total numbers within North America due to 360's gaming library and xbox live. The best PS3 can do is to sell as much as 360 in the coming months. Unless Playstation Home turns out to be very successful. But again, 360 has a more uphill fight with PS3 in global market. The sale of 360 in Japan is NON-EXISTENCE and now they lost europe. For some reason, ppl outside US are more bound to the Playstation brand than Xbox. In addition, xbox's game genre is narrower than Playsation when take Jap Devs into consideration.
Wii is not a direct threat to either PS3 or 360. People who bought Wii either already own PS3 / Xbox or they won't buy them even if there is no Wii. The gaming experience and title library are complete different.
