[gamesindustry] NVIDIA to "simplify" product range - Page 2

Nintendo simplified to broaden their market.. That worked out great for them.

Both the GeForce and Radeon names need to be retired anyway. By the end of August, the "GeForce" name will be nine years old, and "Radeon" shortly thereafter. To put it in perspective, the "Riva" name was only used by Nvidia for two years (including TNT and TNT2 variants)

Their naming scheme is pretty odd. I think their worst mistake was making two different 8800gts's. What idiot thought of that? It could have been 8800XYZ, even that would've made more sense. Or maybe call all of the G92 based chips the 8900 series?

They should just name their Cards G90 G91 G96 G98 now so G109 would be best G100 would be mobo integrated. And the cores could switch to Geforce 10000 and 10080 lol.

Aww schucks.

I've grown quite accustom to having 3 different iterations of one number, such as 8800GTS.

Um. What the hell are you on about?

And yeah, was about time. They should just start over now at 1 series and then use letters for differences within, for example:

1A
1B
1C

2A
2B

Bigger number = latest series, increments of one keeps them reasonable for the next few hundred years.

Like a grading scale in school, A is best followed by B, C, etc.

They should just do "Good Card", "So-so card", "****ty Card".

haha... ya... there next should be something like
G10 LO (good for the basics, mainly an intergraded card)
G10HD LO (same as the intergraded, but has dedicated ram and hdmi/dvi)
G10 MD (similar to that of what the 9600gt is like)
G10 GTS MD (just a beefed up something similar to a 9800gtx)
G10 HI (just the 9800 basically)
G11 GT HI (faster, higher mem, maybe dual core 9800gx2
G11 GTX HI (the EXTREME!)
Then consumers can look and see, well, low means simple stuff, low hd will work with hd content, medium will play games and is in the med range, gts is just pwnzours... high is the higher end cards and adding 1 next just boasts it up (G10<G11) making the card the best they have... more easier than this new amd thing with the 50 and 70 etc, takes away the naming of the card, hey, the 3450 is just a piece of crap while the 3870 seems good...but just doesn't have that powerfulness feel

then next year they go G20 and so on... or they can just go to the 100 type series... the number system is quite annoying, a lot of people, even today always seem to think the higher number is better, so when comparing a 4750 when they come out to a 9800gtx some people would think the gtx is better just by name (don't know about benchmarks yet, but you get the point). Now people could just see, well this is LO, well, that'll just run the sytem, hey this MD is just well, can play games, its cheap, and performs well, just have a small screen , and then people see the Hi and be like, PWN

This. Although the names "pro", "k" and "noob" would be better

liking that, but the ABC part... well b comes after c so c could be the newest
the letter incorporations help, seeing XT, GTX, etc make the card sound good.............................................. ............... going to the 1, 2 series sounds kinda weak, but easier in some way in the future... well, gl nvidia...
