what the cheapest vid card with decent performace I should look for?

I'm a very poor person, but recently got a little money. and hello to everyone, haven't been on in awhile.

I have an AMD X2 5000+ system, and I need a pci-e card for it. Single card.

I'm currently playing eq2 mostly on a P4 3ghz Prescott (423socket) with an agp x1950pro (256mb)

Obviously I'd like to get better framerates in eq2.

Someone local has a Visiontek HD2600Pro 512mb for $60.
And someone had a XFX 8600 GT for $75.
nVidia BFG geforce 7800GT OC - $70

I run XP, DX10 isn't a concern currently, but would rather go with a newer card if the performance is similiar.

While I can go new, I'd rather go used if I can get a better card that way. Like i said, i'm a poor person.

Any ideas or suggestions will be much appreciated.

thanks

Yes deffo get an 8800GT if you can, they are the best cards out there for the money atm
Just try and get one made by either EVGA, XFX or BFG cos then you may get a warranty if second hand

Okay, sorry, dyslexia hit again.

It's not a 8800 GT, it's an 8600 GT

I got that mixed up with the:
nVidia BFG geforce 7800GT OC - $70

that someone had for sale.

So, nm the 8800 GT, my bad, guess that would of been a great deal. =)

What at that 7800GT? think it's 256mb, would it be better then that 2600pro, or is there another card I should set my sights on?

Hmm, Everquest II isn't that demanding (hardware, wise) of a game, is it?

System Requirements Lab says the recommended (not minimum) graphics card setup is as follows:

"DirectX 9 compatible Video Card with Pixel and Vertex shaders and 128 MB of texture memory"

Seems your X1950 should be more than enough...

even with the 8600GT it would beat the 2600 and the 7800GT, what resolution do you use, because anything under 1280x1024 the 8600GT would be fine for, i can max out alot of games with mine easily
