The source engine is great. It looks good, feels good and scales well on all types of hardware.

Leave it alone.

The PS3 uses OpenGL ES (Embedded Systems), meaning Valve would have to do little to get it running in Linux.

This is great news, I hope its true.

Why get rid of the Source Engine ?. Its one of the best optimized engines I have ever seen and it keeps getting better and better. Its one of those engines that can evolve. Its not an engine that will get old to a point where its time to start again.

Valve have said that they will not make a new engine unless something unforseen happens with Source.

Because we all know that random quotes pay the bills *sarcasm*

Source looks just as good as most of the newest engines, is far more optimized and is designed to do 3 things:

Look as good as possible while running as smoothly as possible on as many computers as possible

Yes yes, i know you computer geeks must not only have the cutting edge but also expect everyone with car/home/rent/insurance payments to as well. Well sorry but most people won't do more than slap a $100 graphics card in to play games.

The last survey they had, about 5% of all Steam users were Dx10 ready. They don't need to upgrade. They don't have $40 million just so you can feel happy.

o man... I feel waaaaaaaaaaaaay more comfortable in a Unix/Linux environment over any windows platform any day...

This is great news if it ends up being true. I would install the most basic packages into an install, the bare essentials to get this to work and have a dedicated Linux CSS box!!!

1000 fps FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tell you something, if Steam does go Linux aswel I would bet that they would make a good amount of money from it considering there are many linux users out there that would love a Native game platform.

Hardware is not comparable here.

It's not just bug fixing what they are doing.
Source Engine didn't even have HDR when Half-Life 2 came out.

GSC Game World is working on a new Stalker game and it will run on X-Ray engine again. It looks great.

i don't see how building a new engine for every second game would benefit anyone. You would never have a bug free game.

Guys, hardware is a lot different from software. AND! I'll be happy when this comes to mac too...but it won't. Sucks for me. Oh well, I'll be here enjoying mah vista.
