Gateway machine doesn't POST after installed NEW MEMORY

Hello,

I"m encounter a problem with a Gateway model GT 5420. installed newly purchased memory 4pieces 1GB Gateway desktop PC2-4200 non-ECC DDR2-533 and get two beeps and nothing cameup. Was trying to remove the memory and reinstall the original memory that came with machine, but the New memory was really hot to touch when i was trying to pull them out when it has only been seating on that board for 2minutes. I do understand it should be that hot. So i installed the original memory back in, turn it on, i get not post, no video output at all, doesn't show up BIOS Gateway screen.

Please advice what could be wrong, does the new memory fried the motherboard or GPU or other hardware? is there CMOS reset function on gateway machine which found on most custom built machine such as Asus and Abit ect...

Any help would be much appreciated
I"m new here

Try removing two of the sticks and see if it boots.......... Oh, and please go to USERCP at the top of the page and fill out your specs if you plan to stick around for a while.

In cases like this, it's often best to totally dismantle the system as that helps to eliminate several variable. Remove all of the components from the case, and rebuild a bare system on a cardboard box or other non-conductive surface. Just use the motherboard, one stick of RAM, a video card if you are using one (omit for onboard video), and a power supply. Leave out any hard drives, optical drive, floppy drive, and extraneous PCI cards (sound, LAN, etc.) You will need to connect the motherboard to the front panel of the case or use an alternate means of triggering a boot. You may also need to clear the CMOS.

One potential issue is that the new RAM may require higher vdimm (RAM voltage) than the original RAM, and the motherboard may not be able to supply it. That's somewhat doubtful since you purchased Gateway RAM, but if you can get past POST with one stick of the original RAM, check the BIOS to see if there are any options related to RAM voltage.
