Is this gonna be OK?

Thread Starter
I've had my q6600 clocked to 3.6ghz for a few weeks now. I've run all the tests and everything to check for stability and it's perfect! That is except for the temps now. Right now it's about 24c in my house. My idles temps are 42,37,36,43. Loads temps using small FFTs shoot up to 75c after about a minute. When it was cooler out my load temps were around 69-70c after 12 hours which is tolerable I guess since it'll never see that kind of stress in a game anyway. My central A/C isn't working at the moment so I'm worried about my rig getting to hot with the rising temps outside. I've tried reseating my TRUE and adding another fan but it doesn't seem to make much difference in my temps. I can't get stable at a lower voltage either. Maybe to guys have an idea on how I could keep my clock and lower my temps at the same time?

first you can try reseating your HSF. If that doesn't help, you can lap your IHS and TRUE.

try decreasing the vcore by a notch. and test stability again. keep doing it until you get the lowest vcore.

it would be a good idea to reseat the HSF...

Even if a reseat barely effects your temps, i think you'll be alright. Yes, your processor will have the potential to get very hot, but it probably won't because there isn't much that will stress it like what Prime95 or Orthos would do. the only thing you should know is that very, very high temps will effect its stability on that overclock.

If i run Prime95 on my QX6700 for any more than 2 hours it'll usually BSOD because of it's temps, which peak 80C. (lol, yeah, you think yours is bad?. it's frequency aint as high as yours!) This is made worse by the heat wave we've recently been getting here in the UK..

I did reseat the HSF yesterday. I also did the penny mod for the true. Idle temps dropped about 2c and about 3c under full load. My True is lapped but my q6600 is not. I've also tried lowering my vcore but it's not stable at anything lower than this. I have it set at 1.475v in the bios. CPUZ sees 1.472v under full load.

you will want to lap your CPU too. Sometimes lapping one and not the other will result in even worse temps, because instead of having two concave/convex surfaces touching, now you will have a convex and a flat surface with terrible contact.
