Help! Disable CAS in TI-89?

Thread Starter
I've got the Ministerial Exams coming up (basically what will decide my future), and we aren't allowed calculators that have CAS programmed into them.

Quote:
Les ordinateurs, les calculatrices munies d’un clavier alphanumérique (QWERTY ou AZERTY) ou présentant des capacités de manipulation de symboles et les agendas électroniques ne sont pas autorisés.

CAS is what allows me to do:

- ''Algebraic factoring of expressions, including partial fraction decomposition.''

- ''Algebraic simplification; for example, the CAS can combine multiple terms into one fraction by finding a common denominator. ''

- ''Solving equations for a certain variable. The CAS can solve for one variable in terms of others; it can also solve systems of equations. For equations such as quadratics where there are multiple solutions, it returns all of them. Equations with infinitely many solutions are solved by introducing arbitrary constants: solve(tan(x+2)=0,x) returns x=@n1π-2, with the @n1 representing any integer. ''

The TI-89 passes everything to be allowed on the expams other than this CAS thing, and I don't want to have to dish out 100$ for an 84 Plus Silver.

Rep to anyone more software-savvy than me who can solve this...dilemma!

PS: I am using Hardware Version 4, on the TI-89 Titanium. I don't mind reinstalling OS'es or anything as I have all my programs and notes stored on my computer. Oh, and here's a link to the calculator.

Chances are they have a blacklist of certain calculators not allowed to be used, even if you could disable it, you'd just be wasting your time.

If I could prove to them that I disabled CAS, I'm sure they would let me. I'm using the 89 on normal exams while everyone has the 83 (call me a nerd ) and the teacher is cool with it.

Also, in other provinces there is a blacklist of certain calculators, but here in Le Quebec, they only say that quote from on top, which I will crudely translate:

''Computers and calculators with an alphanumerci keyboard (QWERTY or AZERTY) or that have capacities to manipulate symbols or electronic calendars are not authorized.''

The calendar is not a problem as I can easily delete the program, but I think that CAS is built into it or something.

If I were you I'd buy a TI-84 for the exam and return it to the store afterwards.

UPDATE: My ti-89 got robbed.

I now have an excuse to buy any calculator I want. I still would like to have the 89 and disable CAS though.

The only way to disable CAS that I'm aware of is to install PedroM, a third party OS. You can get it at http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files...319/31951.html

This is like, the worst thing I've ever done in my nerdy life! Muahahha!

Keep in mind this is worth 75% of the year, and she just let me cheat. Once again, Muahahah!
