AF7P Thermal Paste or AS5

Thread Starter
Hi,

I've recently bought an Arctic Freezer 7 Pro which comes with pre-applied MX-1/2 thermal paste which would be applied on a q6600. My problem is that I feel that there is too much of the thermal paste on the heatsink.

So I am wondering if I'm better to wipe it out and apply some Artic Silver 5 thermal paste on the cpu or the amount and application of the thermal paste on the AF7P is good enough.

Thank you for your help.

There is indeed too much thermal compound on the bottom of the Freezer 7 Pro. I wouldn't replace it with Arctic Silver 5 however, I'd pick up one of the high-quality non-conductive TIMs on the market like OCZ Freeze, Arctic Cooling MX-2, or any other high-quality non-conductive thermal grease on the market.

I found the stuff on the bottom of the AF7P to be absolutely awesome. Better than the crap the computer shop guys put on my CPU at the moment anyway.

The stock paste (which I think is MX-1) should be fine, and it should spread out to a layer that is perfectly thin enough, unless you have an extremely well lapped IHS.

AS5 rocks socks but I've been trying some AIT Cool Silver which has been rated to pull 3-4c below AS5.

Thank you, that pretty much answers my question.

I'll be installing the AF7P with the pre-applied MX-1/2 paste and I'll give you the results when I do.

Thanks again.
