value line LCD's vs mid-range, what's the dif?

Greetings again

So I'm probably most definitley going LCD widescreen and I game alot, alot. I know the drill when talking to sales reps in store so does anyone know the major differences between value lines and mid-range, more specifically Acer's value line (value being 200-220) to any mid-range (being 280-330). Will this monitor suffice for a hardcore gamer?

nothing wrong with my sig monitor, except it doesn't come with an ultra pretty bezel and a handful of extra (mostly useless in my experience) features. It's a barebones LCD that does it's job wonderfully.. that job being displaying my games.

So mid-rage or highend LCD's just have extra features that don't pertain to video quality?

nope, they have better quality too a budget LCD will have a 700:1 CR and 5-8MS Response, my lcd has 3000:1 CR and a 2ms response. just get a smaller high quality LCD, samsung's 19" 2ms model with a 3000:1 or 2000:1 (i forget which) is about $200. mine was about $300.

QFT. And to sgdude, higher price does not mean better picture and stats are relative. My monitor has a 5ms response time and a lower contrast ratio than what you listed but will look better than yours any day of the week, because mine has an S-PVA panel while yours in a TN.

Also, you might want to check for warranty differences.

You do realize that the 2ms that monitor is rated for is GTG (grey to grey) response? The only response time that matters is on to off. That measurement is always as least double the GTG one (you'd probably end up with 4-5ms or so).

Also, the 3000:1 CR you are looking at is only the dynamic contrast ratio. That the measurement of the difference of the brightest and darkest color that screen can produce at different times. The static contrast ratio is what you are interested in because thats the difference of two different colors on the screen at the SAME time, and with your monitor its only 700:1!!Check out the specs on newegg yourself.
