Just do what we're here for. Overclock it

AMD doesn't make phenoms running at higher than 2.5GHz.

Start by reading thru the Overclocking guides here on OCN. They are all very informative and well written and quite helpful. I have been a member here since 2006 but have been lurking since 2005. I have gained leaps and bounds by becoming a active member here. Tons and tons of people willing to help guide you thru the process, but you have to be willing to learn and have plenty of patience.

Best way to get 3GHz is the X4 9850 Black Edition.
Many sources tell it runs the 3000 with standard voltage or little more.
The multiplier is unlocked so that is easy to overclock it - no hassle with HT or Memory Clock.
But therefore it is also the most expansive one...

I think the 9850 BE is only like 30 or 40$ more then the Q6600... Last time I checked. You should easily be able to get 3.2 with minor voltage changes.

It's only $235 at the eggz. Not a bad price for a good quad.

3000... thats if you don't get one with any cores holding you back. Several of us so far have determined one or two core can't go higher than the others and is making it difficult to hit 3.0ghz. Most of us can say at least we have half the processor at 3 ghz

The chip i got, I can easily get cores 0 and 1 to 3.0, core 2 topping out around 2.8 and core 3 tops out around 2.7
