Help...Stuck with problem I've never seen

Have any of you ever run into this?

On very first start-up on a brand new build...The bios screen loads as usual and then I get a;

"Floppy Disk(s) fail (40)" error
"Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter SETUP"

The problem is - the keyboard does not function at all. YThe lights blink upon power-up...but nothing works. So - I can;t enter bios to configure this PC.

Anyone have any ideas? On the keyboard...not the floppy error.

EDIT:

Sorry - System Specs:

sounds like its a USB keyboard and USB Keyboard support/Legacy Support is disabled in the BIOS.

If that is right, then the only options u have are...try and find a PS2 keyboard and use that. Reset the CMOS and "HOPE" the default setting for the USB support is ENABLED (obviosuly, the last option is a very extreme case...i prolly wouldn't do it unless there were no PS2 keyboards left in the world )

Do you HAVE a floppy drive plugged in? And also, make sure the keyboard plug is in the right plug on the I/O.. that's about all I can suggest.

Well the floppy error means the bios is set to look for a floppy but since you don't have one installed you get an error. (I have a 680i too)

As for the keyboard, do you have a USB keyboard or a ps/2 keyboard?

On new systems the USB keyboards should always work on first boot in reality, its a weird problem you have there! If resetting CMOS or trying a different USB keyboard does not work, then you should try to get ahold of a ps2 keyboard unfortunately (can get some cheap ones at flea markets maybe?) to try and rectify the problem. Good luck!

Edit: Just noticed it is a PS/2 keyboard sorry, have you tried a USB one?

ok then....are you able to test that keyboard on another computer? or another keyboard on that computer???

make sure the keyboard is plugged into the purple PS2 connector on the computer, not the green...

**EDIT, also, check the pins inside the keyboard PS2 connector...make sure that there are no bent pins in it...i've seen it happen many times

Very - Very -Very wierd.

I keep an extra PS/2 keyboard laying around just for use when I build systems. I have never once had a problem with the PS/2 ports on any build.

I plugged in my USB keyboard and it works fine. I am guessing then that this board or whatever, has an issue with the PS/2 drivers or something. Once I get the OS and everything else loaded - I'll re-visit this issue and see if I can fix it. It almost seems ridiculous to RMA the board for a plug that noone really ever uses.

Reppies for those who contributed...
