Quad speaker set up won't work in Vista

Thread Starter
I have 4 speakers on my pc and since i changed my mobo to the one in my sig now from a MSI SLI platinum, my 4 way speakers won't work. I can only hear front left and front right.

I use the onboard sound card. On the MSI board i just clicked one of the effect options in the sound setup to emulate surround and it worked. However on my asus board such an option is not there due to the sound max interface.

If i use test in the soundmax interface all speakers are tested correctly. However in actuall applications only the 2 work.

Any ideas on what to do?

Try going to "Control Panel>Sound>Speakers>Configure"
It's probably set to Stereo, try selecting Quadrophonic.
That might slove it, Let me know either way.

No idea some 4.1 creative speakers have had them for nearly 3 years or so...

I also get a wierd prob in some games (lately mostly wow) where i get distorted sound and mouse or keyboard "looking" is locked for about 2-3 secs then everything is back to normal...

I think its a prob with the onboard card or drivers :/ But i have the latest ones (which were the ones on the cd)

Ah ok, Have you got any third-party sound drivers running in the background? Often that is what sets the "sound-stage" if it's not windows drivers?
Chris.

Ok, have you ooked around on the internet for software for it, maybe there's combatibilty issues with vista that the official software (not just the drivers) might fix?

Not really... I used the software available from the mobo CD which is actually the latest i found on asus sight aswell :/ Guess ill give google a shot

[edit] Woot worked Went to the sonic website and ti seems they had a known problem with the blackhawk interface and vista for my particular board. Everything works fine now.

The only problem i have is that blackhawk is displayed in ?? and other symbols instead of text lol
