CPU Compatibility Question

Would a 3.3GHz Celeron D with a 533 MHz fsb work on a 800mhz fsb native board? I assume that if it would work, it would be slightly higher than its stock speed, but I'm just wondering. My old motherboard just past away (bless its soul), and I need a Micro ATX board to take its place, one with a PCI-E slot, LGA 775, PC2-5300 compatible RAM and 533mhz fsb. It massively narrows it down to a 478 socket board on Newegg, which I don't need. I'm tempted just to get one of the newer Conroe-L Celerons, because I've heard they're better than the Prescotts.

Help is appreicated.

Oh and just one quick question.. I have a really old ATX case. What can you do to remove the I/O shield? It looks like its totally connected to the back of the case. Any ideas? I'd really like to know if there is a possibility.

Maybe, check the manual for the board. Most boards are pretty flexible for backwards compatibility but its not always true in nature.

if its just connected by a few tabs, a pair of needle nose pliers and a quick couple twists can break off the tabs and release the plate. If the plate is solid (part of the case with some holes cut in it) you are out of luck unless you are real good with a dremel or case nibbler... be sure to make accurate measurements or you may end up having a pretty useless case after....

Alright I'll look into the backwards compatibility.

And yeah, its on the case solid. Its an old Gateway 2000 case, and it has plenty of places where I could throw a few fans on, so I figured I could utilize that for a computer build.
