Can you seriously imagine GTAIV having ultra-arcadey driving physics? its actually be silly.. maybe it suited Vice City as you balled around rocking to Guns 'n' Roses in your bright yellow infernus and your hawaiian shirt.. but if you havent noticed, GTAIV has stepped on new ground. Its grown up. Pretty much everything has changed to a degree for its next-gen makeover and I can honestly say I like it a whole lot more.
Very valid point, just takes some getting used to I suppose.

I like the new system, makes it interesting. Its fun to e-brake while going fast, spin the car around, and continue driving in reverse. =D

Seems hard to find anywhere to do that with all the traffic, but it is a replica of New York so you gotta expect that I suppose.

That is one of the annoying things, half the time I "die" and spawn outside a hospital, only to look around and see no cars at all. In downtown New York. what the hell.

If you're in a crappy car the driving is almost painful. If you use something with decent handling like a Sentinel or Comet, though, GTAIV blows away the simplified, arcadey, but easy GTAIII driving style.

I agree with heroes completely. Vice City and San Andreas were GTAIII parts 2 and 3. This is GTAIV - the next gen GTA. Driving is just one place where this is reflected

It feels way to hard to turn a corner, you have to practically slow down to 2 mph to take a corner, it's kind of getting on my nerves. If I hit RB it drifts but overcompensates. I dunno, maybe it's supposed to be this way and I'm making a big deal about nothing...
yup im not very good at driving (in the game) but i find it pretty horrible.

I to be honestly think this game is a little bit over rated.

This game is far from over rated, I think people have been caught a little off guard at how much more realistic they have made the entire game. Running down stairs for instance, Niko turns sideways and still hits every step. The addition of the cover system, which pretty much allows you to use anything as cover (a car after you blow it up works relatively well). The ability to climb fences and shimmy across ledges is another great touch that adds depth to your surroundings. Being able to hit different points of someone's body when in a firefight. And of course, the driving, whether its the animations associated with stealing a car (breaking the window, reaching in to unlock, a few seconds to hot wire the car) or the different capabilities of each car and the unique characteristics of each one.

If you find the car you're driving to be a bit difficult, find a car that suits your driving. Trucks are built for straight lines, the muscle cars are quick but sluggish in corners, the BMW and Lexus looking sedans offer a pretty good balance of speed and handling, the CRX and Corolla look-a-likes are a little slow but handle almost too well. The Aston Martin/Lamborghini/Corvette/Ferrari cars are very fast as you would expect and handle well, but can not sustain much damage or carry a crew in multi-player. Each car serves a different purpose and style, I know its easiest to just grab the first thing you see, but don't expect the Land Rover to handle as well as on of the coupes or sedans even.

ive noticed the handbrake is extremly sensitive, but it makes it real easy to do those complete sexy 180's with a car....PS3 here btw

In real life you cant take a corner at 90 miles an hour and expect your car to maintain traction.. it just doesnt happen. Thats why you've got to slow down to take a corner. You can still pull it off, use the brake and handbrake to really control a car and you can become pretty adjusted to it. GTAIV places the center of the traction to whichever wheels the engine is powering (obviously) and that means either rear wheel drive or front wheel drive cars. If you take a corner in a powerful RWD car the back end slides out and you have to maintain control until you can shoot off down the road. I find it brilliant. They actually spent good time and effort trying to get the car physics and handling to behave properly. Past GTA games just centered control and power on a pivot and you could drive like a pro no matter how fast you were going. GTAIV doesnt exactly require you to be a Gran Turismo pro driver but it definitely hits the surface of proper car behaviour. If you like arcade racing then you shouldnt expect it from GTAIV, alot of things are meant to be more realistic for this game
Agreed.
