Up to this point I've pretty much just thrown voltage at the cpu to get up to 3500 stable. But I've seen so many people running less than 1.5volts through the core that there must be something i'm doing wrong.

bnhoang86: I've got an iP35 Pro as well. My first thought was "oh hell maybe I got a bum Q6700" but this is supposed to be a pretty good P35 board. I'm sure the DFI boards have alot more options ...but still. Anyway so you guys had some good insights about tweaking GTL before ramping up Vcore.

Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

FYI at the moment my bios settings are as such:

Vcore - 1.505, Vtt - 1.31, NB 1.52, SB 1.09, 390 x 9 multi

at 3.5, leaving the GTL at 67% (Default) seems to work. Core temps are usually mid 30s idle and low 60s under load.
Hmm.. how bad is the vdroop on your motherboard..?
Also i fixed my Q6700.. now its running at 3.8 ghz under 1.45v,, 24/7 =)..
Anyhow.. please use CPU-z and find your DESKTOP Voltage.. and post your BIOS voltage too..

Ok right now in Windows, the Vcore is 1.45 and underload the Vcore drops to 1.40.

The voltages I have in the BIOS at the moment are the ones I mentioned up there:

Vcore - 1.505
Vtt - 1.31 (stays the same in windows)
NB (mch) 1.52 (stays the same in windows)
SB (ich) - 1.09
SB Core - 1.55
GTL 0/2 - 67% of Vtt
GTL 1/3 - 67% of Vtt (both defaults)

Thus far, for GTL, I've been referring to the GTL tables and then approximating the %. But I need a good baseline to start with (ie. lower vcore). There has to be a combo that yields what you guys are able to get, unless my vdroop is just screwing things up.

There is a vdroop mod people have been doing with the iP35 Pro to deal with vdroop, but I haven't tried it yet.

For some reason, my temperature is lower than my Q6600 at 3.6 ghz.. i'm not sure if it have anything to do with the thermal grease..

o.o im guessing it have something to do with my thermal grease..
for the Q6600.. i had a little more than rice grain size
for the Q6700.. i had a little more than a BBgun bullet size.. [bigger than rice size]

Also, anyone know what's the max a Q6700 can be overclocked to under 1.5v?
could also be just ambient temp

It's recommended for the GTL values to be around 67-70%. Start off at 67% then work your way up and prime test as you go and see how long it takes for a core to fail then increase the GTL value for that particular core and retest until there are no longer errors. It takes a while but in the end it will be worth it. And I have my FSB @ 1.6V not my chip that's just crazy on air.

Well..I've managed to get the machine to run prime95 @ 3.6 for a few minutes before the whole thing BSODs ...but core 3 itself isn't failing immediately. I think if I do the vdroop mod, it'll make life a little easier. Right now, compensating for a .08V vdroop requires me setting the Vcore at 1.535+ and load temps push past 65C.

WOW I'd do the vDroop mod and see if that works cause that is some crazy high temps.
