Any good (computer) speakers for under $50?

Hello.

I would like to know if their are any good speakers out their for under $50. Speakers that can for example do Mozart’s Requiem some justice... I know one must hear it in person, so I said some justice.

I was looking at Logitech speakers but they all seem to have a minimum frequency response of 40hertz, and I want 20. I found a pair for $24 plus $13 shipping: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836157002 but wonder if they are up to the task. Before I was looking primarily at 5.1 speakers, but realized I simply lack the space to effectively use them, so now I am looking at 2.1 as a possibility.

Thank you for reading, if you have any suggestions please share them with me.

For under $50 it'll be hard finding speakers with the power to push out something down to 20 hertz.

Why is it that all the Logitech speakers seem to have a minimum of 40-hertz frequency response while other cheaper speakers have 20? Also just so you know I am not someone who cares about feeling the bass give me a massage, I just want good quality audio when listening to music or playing games.

Go try your local Craigslist for some deals.
Today, I just saw a set of logitech THX z2300 for 50. MUCH MUCH better than anything you can buy new for that price.

I bought a set of those for only 30 bucks a while ago, they sound great with my xfi. But of course I couldnt pass up on a deal of Klipsch 5.1 ULTRAS for 150.

Just because a set of speakers "can" produce a 20Hz wave that doesnt mean that it will be loud enough for you to hear it. See, a 20Hz wave has a wavelength (from crescent to crescent) of about 50 feet. So if you are standing somewhere in the middle of that, you won't hear much of it at all. And even if you were standing right where the peak was, to produce a sound wave of that length with enough of an amplitude for you to hear requires a lot of power. No 20W speaker is physically capable of what you are asking. The cone has to be big and the distance the cone can travel has to be relatively high. And with those properties, you need at least a constant 100W amplifier to power them, probably with about 500W peak. Yes those same woofers can give you a massage if you turn them all the way up, but the truth is that they are also the only speakers that can physically give you the 20Hz response you are asking for.

If you want cheap speakers that sound good, what you need to look for is the frequency response not frequency range, because there is a physical limit on what speakers of these sizes can do. This article should help you out in learning to identify good speakers. Just remember - a flat response is good while a variable response is bad.

Sorry I can't point out some good computer speakers for you because I've given up on that market, but If you are looking for a full speaker/amplifier system I can hook you up.
