How far should I be able to take it?

Thread Starter
I'm playing around with my sig rig, having a blast with it too.

Right now I've got it overclocked to 4050Mhz, using a 9x multi and 1800mhz FSB. It's stable so far. But when I try to up the multi with a lower FSB, it won't POST. When I try high FSB and up the multi, it crashes during boot.

I'm running at 1.44 Vcore but CPUZ indicates 1.36 Vcore. FSB is 1.30V and the memory is 1.8V.

Temps...Not sure about them. BIOS indicates about 44c on the CPU but then the Nvidia monitoring software is saying 59-75C (no load). When I feel the water block it's fairly cool so I'm guessing BIOS is correct.

Tips/hints on how to push it farther? Surely it should be capable of 4.5Ghz at least.

The QX9770 is 1600 QDR @ stock and you have an unlocked multi to play with, you also have 1600Mhz DDR3. Personally, i would keep the FSB @ 1600 and raise the multiplier one notch. You do not need to stress the NB for further bandwidth with an already decent stock FSB. It won't achieve much other than a few points in benchmarks.

You NB Volts are far too low for that kind of FSB anyway, you should be using around 1.4v to 1.45v i would have thought.

I would say your upper limit for that chip considering your on water and using voltages that won't destroy the chip would be around 4.2Ghz MAX. Any clock speed beyond that is highly likely to be using volts that would be "Kill Chip" territory for a 45nm.

Use Core Temp for monitoring your CPU.

Ok, I dropped the FSB down to 1650 and set the multi at 10x for a final clock speed of 4125Mhz. I haven't changed the voltage yet. Should I still bump the NB volts up to 1.45?

Coretemp is indicating much more reasonable temps, all cores ranging from 38-42C.

This thing is UNBELIEVABLY fast. Anyways compared to my last P4 anyway. I'm getting 23,500 points (15569 CPUMark) in 3dMark05 with a single 9800gtx!

Try Vantage......then you won't be so impressed.

Keep NB around 1.40v for 1650QDR

Haven't tried Vantage yet. It's a one-shot thing, so I want to be stable before I run it. Which I'm not.

Orthos crashes running a CPU stress test, saying hardware failure. The error was "Rounding was 0.5, less than 0.4 was expected". Think the overclock is too high and the processor is getting too loose with the data? It will run the Gromacs test but fails the FFT tests.
