e8400 Temps - Speedfan vs. CoreTemp vs. RealTemp

Thread Starter
Trying to gauge how hot my e8400 is getting while overclocking, but all three programs are showing different temps, so I'm trying to find out which is correct before I start pushing it any further. After Google-ing it a couple times, I found that it's possible for the e8400 to give off incorrect temperature readings. Hoping that I'd find one program that people prefer, instead I found numerous postings suggesting all of them. Any advice?

I'm just wondering the same about real temp and everest lol - getting a 5 degree difference, real temp being lower temps.

RealTemp is what you should be using for your e8400.

apparently real temp is suppose to the most accurate for e8400 and 45nm chips.

just trust which ever one you want.
use real temp. its more accurate for those chips. core temp for 65nm
post #6 of 10
RealTemp most accurate.
Core Temp and Everest the TjMax you can adjust to 95c.

Got a question about real temp. It's showing that my multiplier is 6, when it is really set to 9.

1. Can I change this? Can't seem to figure out how to do this.

2. Will is skew my temp reading?

Thanks ahead of time.

I tried to download realtemp, but when I started it said the driver was missing. I thought everything came together?

Is there a more complete version?

@Johnnyezzell, your multiplier is 6 at idle, it will jump to 9 on load. This is intels power saving feature, you can disable EIST and C1E in bios if you prefer to disable speedstep.

@PwnyGT most recent complete version is here, which you may already have:

But since you have vista, the driver error may be from lack of administrator rights, realtemp has to be set to have admin rights or will not work.

Thanks.

How do you go about doing that? I just got Vista so I don't know how to do a lot haha.
