Please assist me in OCing my AMD CPU!

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

i'm pretty new to the whole OCing deal, but i wanted to give it a shot before i went out and purchased a new mobo, cpu and RAM...soo, here are my system specs. I'm not sure how others have their specs displayed at the bottom so i'm going to assume that it isn't being shown.

(all of this information according to CPU-Z)

CPU :
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo
Current Core speed : 1004.7 MHz
Multiplier : x5
Bus Speed : 200 MHz
Core Voltage : 1.112 V
Cache - L1: 2x64 KBytes
L2: 2 x 1024 KBytes

Mainboard :
Model : NF-CK804
N Bridge : NVIDIA SPP100 (C51D)
S Bridge : NVIDIA nForce4 MCP

RAM :
Single Channel DDR
DRAM Frequency : 200 MHz
CAS Latency : 3 clocks
5-4-8-12

Soo, there's my info, i've read a little bit about the whole Overclocking idea but any information would greatly help.

I also might add, i somewhat attempted to go into the BIOS a few days ago, i only changed the CPU Bus speed, and i only upped it by 10 MHz to 210, and then my PC wouldn't boot to desk top, it would just attempt to boot and then restart. I hope that information is helpful.

Thanks to all in advance, and i apologize for my lack of knowledge and provided information, please post for more and i'll do what i can to get that to you.

Jack P

edit : i thought that information looked a bit strange so i decided to boot up a game to see what happened while the CPU-Z program was running and as soon as i did that, the multiplier jumped to 11, and the CPU core speed jumped to 2200 MHz, which seems to be my CPU's max? not sure if that helps.

Is your computer a prebuilt like compaq, hp or dell? If so then it isnt overclockable unless your will trying to software. Some have good luck with it, some open a can of worms. If your pc isnt prebuilt then theres more hope via bios which is the best way to do it.

This processor is meant to be at 2.2 GHz Stock. Plus your voltage is way to low. Try 1.35 volts in the bios. Infact try to go in there and reset everything back to stock.

And Welcome to Overclock.net

this system was built by myself miscellaneously props to Newegg.com for amazing deals.

and i DO think this AMD cool and quiet is enabled, which seems to be the cause of the problem?

i am in north richland hills, about 20 minutes north east of Fort Worth.(xBLADEx)

i edited my first post with some hopefully helpful information. the voltage jumped to about 1.352 when i started running a game...and the multliplier to x11.

Oddly enough, the Biostar TA770 A2+ bumps up the voltage when the load demands even wit Cool N Quiet disabled and I recall another MB does too... perhaps to counter the vdroop.

Some screen shots of CPU-Z.... main, Memory and SPD screens would be helpful to us. Also, what are you cooling the CPU with... stock or what after market HSF?

Mine does this. I can only set the CPUvid and not the vcore. So, if I set my VID to 1.35, I will often idle at 1.4 and load at like 1.44 or so. It bugs me that I can't have total control over my vcore, but I can't complain since I managed a good overclock regardless.

To the OP: have you read the official socket AM2 overclocking guide listed in the sticky's? It's fantastic and very detailed.

i'm cooling with four Fans that came stock with my tower, as well as a heatsink / fan that came with the CPU. the CPU normally runs around 34 degrees C or so but that's to be expected since it hasn't been tampered with whatsoever?

I don't know where to locate my screen shots, where can i find those?

U dont have any screenshot directory in windows.
U have to press the "print screen" button, enter windows paint, edit/paste then save the picture.

Or the CPU-Z's validation option.
