Perhaps get a second HDD of the current one you have and put it in RAID0?

Raid makes me nervous, I read about everyone who doesn't know what they are doing fudging things and making it harder on everything. Also my drive is going on 2.5 years old so trying to find another might suck.

I think for now I am going to try to stick with a single platter 32mb cache or a raptor. In the future I might raid but just not right now.

How much everyday use difference would I see with two $60 drives?

Well... you could always get the 500GB version of the Seagate 7200.11 for $84.99 + shipping at ZipZoomFly.com.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...dlist=celebros

Cost effective and speedy... quite a nice combo.

For every additional hard drive you raid in RAID0 you only decrease boot time by about 30%, even though theoretical speed doubles. But with everything else you do, hard drive accesses will be 75-100% faster.

don't buy the Raptor unless you really need the seek time.
I will go for Seagate but I heard and read report on the Samsung they perform very good but I don't have hard data on it. ST3750330AS as long as you don't get that older firmware version, they are solid.
